**This is why I don’t trust my GP.** 😡
**Consultation today: 13/1/26**
Called to get my hormone levels checked and asked for my vitamin levels as well.
🩺 Here’s the deal:
- I had a hysterectomy 17 years ago.
- I have **hemochromatosis** (a condition that causes dangerously high iron levels).
- I suffer from **pernicious anemia** (which means I can’t absorb vitamin B12 via my stomach).
**So, during the consultation:**
- The GP said they would test my hormone levels (HTL) and asked if I was on birth control... *I have no womb!*
- They don’t need to check my iron levels again because they were high back in March 2023 and suggested I might benefit from over-the-counter supplements not to worry about Iron levels. 🤦🏻♀️
When I asked if she knew what hemochromatosis actually is, she said yes, it’s “your blood,” and suggested taking iron supplements. Seriously? 🤦🏻♀️
I explained how too much iron can lead to liver and heart issues, yet she said I should only worry about low iron.
To top it off, she told me to take a multivitamin with B12 and iron, completely ignoring that I can’t absorb B12 because I lack the intrinsic factor, making it pointless. And taking iron is *extremely dangerous* for me since I have to undergo regular venesections to manage my iron levels.
Honestly, I don’t know why I waited 2 hours for this waste of a conversation!
**Rant over.** 😤🤦🏻♀️
