Esther is an experienced HPCP registered Physiotherapist & APPI trained Pilates instructor. Physiotherapy appointments are available with flexible days & times to suit you. Pilates suitable for all levels are available in both small classes and as 121 sessions in daytime and evenings.

3/3 Why I do Pilates

POSTNATAL RECOVERY

Pregnancy is wonderful and miraculous and all that but it is also brutal on a woman’s body.

🟣 The abdominals stretch up to 4x their normal length
🟣 The pelvic floor is under huge pressure
🟣 Posture is drastically altered as your bump grows increasing curvature in your lower back, flaring the ribs and tightening the upper back.
🟣 The extra weight puts pressure on all your joints
🟣 Hormones make your tissues more lax, which is great for childbirth but it so great for core strength and joint stability.
‼️ And that’s before we even talk about childbirth! 😳

So many women struggle with how their body feels after all of this and can experience issues with abdominal weakness, back pain, pelvic floor dysfunction and struggling to get back to full activity and exercise without the right guidance and support.

I had two babies within 20 months and because of Pilates I recovered really well. I regained my pelvic floor support, rebuilt my abdominals, got back to running and exercising without any issues and I didn’t even know this wasn’t the experience of most.

It wasn’t until I spoke to so many other mums who struggled with all the above issues months and often years after having their children and that was where my passion for postnatal rehabilitation and Pilates began!

2. FLEXIBILITY

Out of all the components of fitness, which includes strength, speed, agility, endurance and balance, flexibility is the one I have to work hardest at.

So many of the patients I see in my Physiotherapy practise end up there because they don’t work at their flexibility. Having the capacity to absorb forces through your joints and muscles is crucial to prevent strains and niggles

As I age and lose collagen and elasticity in my tissues this becomes even more crucial for me and I know Pilates enables me to stay supple through my joints and reduce muscle pain and tightness.

I have so much more movement in my back, hips and legs since I began my Pilates journey and I was 15 years younger then!

1. INJURY PREVENTION
Pilates is a conscious movement practice that improves symmetry, efficiency of movement and foundational core strength.

I have been practicing and teaching Pilates for more than 15 years.

In that time I have done a lot of cycling and running including 3 half marathons and a marathon and in the last 5 years, I’ve switched my focus to weight training.

In all that time I have never sustained any injuries or niggles that have kept me out of training and I believe my Pilates practice has contributed to that.

Obviously accidents happen and there’s an element of luck here. I am also super strict about my warm up and cool down routines and carefully programme and progression of training.

However I honestly believe regular Pilates has played a huge role in keeping me fit, healthy and injury free.

Starting this Monday 2nd June running for 5 consecutive weeks

My course will enable you to gently but effectively take those first steps to rebuilding STRENGTH and restoring CONFIDENCE in your body

🟩 Pelvic floor exercise to restore full function to prevent leaks and prolapse
🟩 Assessment of abdominal muscle recovery to heal any Diastasis Recti and strengthen the core
🟩 Move the body to release tension, build strength and return to exercise with confidence

Bring along your baby (or don’t if you don’t need to!) and stay for a cuppa and a chat after each class.

As a Physiotherapist as well as a postnatally trained Pilates instructor I can ensure you recover well and safely so that you can get back to all you need to do.

NEW CHAPTER!!

I am thrilled to announce that I am moving base to The Crate Loughton and setting up as part of elysium_clinics working alongside other fabulous therapists including aidasofttissuetherapy and fitnesstherapyuk from the start of June 2025.

I will have a dedicated treatment room and a gym area for rehabilitation.

My Physiotherapy services include:

5 week Postnatal Pilates Course starts Monday 13th January @10:30am
Take the first steps to rebuild your body after pregnancy and childbirth
Regain confidence, strength and function in your body again.
We focus on pelvic floor function, abdominal support, lower back care and general strength and well-being.
There is a free Diastasis Recti check and lots of
online content
