Yesterday our residents celebrated St David’s Day with all the traditional Welsh favourites. They enjoyed fresh Welsh cakes and Welsh rarebit on toasted bread, which brought lovely memories and plenty of smiles.

The atmosphere was full of laughter and warmth, but the highlight of the day was Daniel from our Lifestyle Team, who dressed up as one of the most iconic Welsh symbols — a bright yellow daffodil. His cheerful costume and energy made everyone smile and added a wonderful touch of fun to the celebration.

Yesterday, our residents had a fantastic time playing Snake and Ladders!
We divided everyone into five colourful teams, encouraging teamwork and plenty of friendly competition. To make the game even more exciting, we used a spinning wheel to decide each move—adding an extra element of surprise and laughter along the way.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed working together, cheering each other on, and sharing lots of smiles throughout the game. A fun-filled session that truly brought everyone together! 🎲🐍🪜 Oakland Care

🍌 National Banana Bread Day 🍌
This week we celebrate Banana Bread Day!
Our residents, with the wonderful support of the Lifestyles team, enjoyed baking delicious banana bread muffins together. The kitchen was filled with laughter, lovely memories, and the irresistible smell of freshly baked treats. They were absolutely yummy!
But did you know there’s a special story behind why we celebrate Banana Bread Day?

---

📖 The Story of Banana Bread Day
The story of National Banana Bread Day is one of resourcefulness and culinary creativity. It began in the United States during the Great Depression, a time when wasting food was unthinkable. Overripe bananas, which might otherwise have been thrown away, were mashed into batter to create a sweet, filling, and affordable treat.
The first printed banana bread recipe appeared in Pillsbury’s Balanced Recipes cookbook in 1933, helping the recipe spread to households across America. Banana bread became even more popular in 1950, thanks to Chiquita Banana’s Recipe Book, which introduced new ways to use bananas in everyday baking.
One of the earliest bakeries to advertise banana bread was the Vienna Model Bakery in St. Louis, where it was originally made using banana flour. What began as a simple solution to reduce waste soon became a much-loved classic.

Today, banana bread is more than just a recipe—it’s a symbol of home baking, comfort, creativity, and zero-waste cooking, bringing people together just as it did all those years ago.

🎉 What a fantastic Saturday at Woodland Grove! 🎉We turned our Bistro into a full East End street party to celebrate a very special resident’s birthday — and what a celebration it was! With a traditional seafood spread featuring jelly eels and cockles, plenty of Cockney sing‑along classics, and a whole lot of laughter, the atmosphere was absolutely buzzing. We were thrilled to welcome our wonderful friends, the Pearly Queens and King of Hackney, who brought their sparkle, charm, and infectious energy.Residents danced, sang, clapped, and joined in every moment — the room was filled with joy from start to finish.A truly memorable day and a huge success for our Woodland Grove family 💛Oakland Care ✨

Woodland Grove were delighted to welcome the Deputy Mayor of Epping, Razia Sharif back to visit us today. She joined and sang along with our Singing for Lungs session with Edmund. She enjoyed talking more in depth with Bert and Susan and finished her visit with a room visit to our 102yr old Doris.
