S U M M E R S O L S T I C E:
21st – 22nd June

The Summer Solstice is the most well-known native Celtic Festival and a time of great natural beauty and growth; the highest point of Light. Father Sun reaches his northern-most point and we have the longest day of the year.
Celtic Summer is May, June and July.

Even though it is called the Mid ~ Summer Solstice, our modern “culture” still denies this is the middle point of Summer. You can choose to be in tune by learning the Celtic Wheel of the Year and living with its form and beauty.

Trees are part of the Goddess and the Wild God and are the breath of life, of love. The Lord and Lady of the Green places are at their strongest at this time.
Our Summer Solstice honours the protective Wild God’s power and beauty, as well as the eternal abundance and creativity of the Great Mother Goddess.

Summer Solstice re-minds us of all manifestations of light and life energy.
Light fires and candles, build an altar outside and leave offerings to the eternal lovers; the Divine Mother and Father energies alive in ALL beings.
Celebrate the cosmic dance between them. Find ways to be free and joyful.
Say Thanks for all the rising year has brought to you since the Winter Solstice.

Right now; your power is needed in return. Please meditate on a Green Revolution NOW. Use the Prayer for Peace provided, if you wish.
Send your love out to all beings, ask for and believe that we humans are re-turning to the oldest belief of all: the one-ness and sacredness of all Life.

At the height of Summer, be aware that the waning year will soon begin.
Be aware that Light and Dark work hand in hand. The Lord of the Forest will change his tree to the Holly, storing his strength within the evergreen trees for the changes to come. Store light, goodness and energy for your own Winter.

Recharge your solar plexus, with Father Sun’s light, so you can be strong in the dark times, whatever form they may take, personally or globally.
May you bathe in power from the sacred female and male creative energies and shine with strength, light, generosity and soul~ power.

Thank the Goddess for your life, add your Soul’s brightness to Nature and help us all transform into honourable Green Guardians. The Earth~ Mother and Her Creatures are part of the Great Goddess, who was stolen from us.

Please send out your heart-felt confident prayers to heal our relationship with the Earth, Animals and all life-forms. Feelings are everything in Healing. We can remember who we are now if we choose. Believe in a new beginning and send hope and love to all creatures. Now and Always. May you Blessèd Be

We collected this deer two days ago from the side of a road after he had been hit by a car and just left to die. Although he was concussed, he had no apparent broken bones so we were hopeful that he would pull through. Although a bit lame, the next day he was able to stand and walk unaided. We administered arnica and moved him into a stable where he is now resting quietly to fully recover.
We regularly attend deer who have been involved in road traffic accidents and where people have just driven off and left them suffering. Sadly because they are so fragile, deer don't often survive their injuries. At least we can ensure they are promptly put to sleep to save them from suffering a slow lingering death. We have around twenty rescued deer of various breeds living together in the Sanctuary who have survived their ordeal, but this is the first Chinese Water deer that we have been able to save.

Top Tips for Feeding Birds in Winter.
During the chilly winter months, our feathered friends need a bit of extra help to stay warm and well-fed. Here are some handy tips to support British birds through the cold:

Provide High-Energy Foods: To help birds maintain their body temperature, offer high-energy foods like suet blocks, fat balls, sunflower seeds, and peanuts. These foods are packed with the energy they need to survive the winter.

Keep Feeders Full and Consistent: Birds come to rely on your garden as a source of food. Make sure feeders are always topped up and check them regularly, especially after harsh weather.

Offer a Variety of Feeder Types: Different birds have different feeding preferences. Use a mix of seed feeders, suet feeders, and ground feeders to cater to the diverse appetites of your garden visitors.

Provide Fresh Water: Birds need fresh water for drinking and bathing, even in winter. Use a heated bird bath or make a habit of replacing frozen water to ensure they stay hydrated.

Create a Sheltered Feeding Area: Place your feeders in spots that provide shelter from the wind and predators. This will help birds feel safe and comfortable as they eat.

Maintain Hygiene: Clean your feeders and bird baths regularly to prevent the spread of diseases. A quick rinse with a mild disinfectant can make a big difference.

Use Leftovers Wisely: Birds can benefit from your kitchen leftovers too. Unsalted nuts, dried fruit, and cooked potatoes are great options. Just avoid anything mouldy or salty.

Common British Birds and Their Preferences
Here's a quick guide to what some common British birds enjoy:

Robins: Mealworms and other live foods are their favourites.

Blue T**s and Great T**s: They love seeds, suet, and peanuts.

Finches: Sunflower hearts and nyjer seeds are a hit with them.

Blackbirds: They prefer feeding on the ground and enjoy suet nibbles and mealworms.

House Sparrows: Small seeds and suet balls are their go-to.
