Alder: The Celtic Tree of Strength 🌳

Alder is the fourth tree of the Celtic zodiac and it's mine and my twin brother’s birth tree. Alder souls are resilient, brave, and quietly courageous.

They often support others without fuss and have a grounded wisdom that draws people in. Alder loves to grow near water, so it carries a gentle connection to both earth and water elements—just like me and my dear (A total water witch!)

Alder tree dates: 18th March to 14th April

I’m making my way through all 13 Celtic trees. Follow to discover yours 🌳🌲🪾

Were you born under the mighty Alder like me?

A message from the flowers 🌼🌹🌸

As someone who is childless (not by choice), I find days like Mother’s Day especially hard.

On these days, I spend time in nature, which brings me comfort. I adore the Language of Flowers, so I’ve picked blooms that represent some of the emotions I’ve felt through miscarriage and infertility.

This message from the flowers is for:

🌹 Those of us who have lost a child
🌼 Those who have lost hope of having a child
🌸 Those who are struggling to have a child

I hope that amongst these flowers, you too can find comfort 🤍

Please share if you know someone who may find today hard.

I wanted to make a gorgeous craft to honour Ostara, so I settled on a bird’s nest… 🐣

Creating one is a hands-on way to honour the turning of the season, invite growth, and connect with the magic of spring.

Everyone who books the Ostara Workshop, will explore essential oils associated with the sabbat and also receive a kit to make your own personal Ostara bird’s nest, complete with hazel sticks, willow wispies, moss, and a little egg — everything you need to craft your own ritual.

🌿 Follow as I honour the pagan festivals and celebrate nature.

Please note - the moss I have used is sustainability sourced.

Mindfulness isn’t about sitting perfectly in the lotus position…

Whilst there is absolutely a place in meditation for the lotus position, the om symbol and traditional practices.

Mindfulness isn't about twisting yourself into the “right” pose or trying to force your mind completely quiet. In fact… I promise you, you’ll never fully empty your mind. Thoughts are part of being human.

Mindfulness is something much simpler.
It’s noticing what is happening right now.

The light through the window.
The sound of water moving.
The warmth of a cup of tea in your hands.

It’s pausing long enough to actually experience the moment you’re already in.

No perfect pose required! Thankfully for me 😂.

Llangernyw Yew 🌿

I've been looking forward to seeing this tree for ages as part of my quest to see the 50 greatest trees, as celebrated by the Tree Council

The Llangernyw Yew did not disappoint. Estimated to be 4,000–5,000 years old, it began its life in the Bronze Age! How cool is that 🌳💚

Its girth stretches over 10 metres, though the centre has hollowed out, leaving massive outshoots of ancient limbs.

Local legend speaks of the Angelystor — the “Recording Angel” — whispering the names of those who will pass before the year is out.

I even wrote a short poem inspired by this visit — a little tribute to her ancient magic - I hope you liked it.

A gentle smile can quietly shift how we feel, releasing mood-lifting chemicals in the brain. Sometimes it’s enough to notice that small lift without having to do anything else 🤍✨.

An Ode to Yule

Earlier this week, I shared how I’m trying not to dim my light or make myself small — and how I’ve promised myself I’ll let a little more of my silly and creative side out into the world.

So, as today marks the return of the sun, it felt like the perfect excuse to do just that and share a poem I’ve been writing about how I chose to celebrate the Winter Solstice.

Here is my poem, Ode to Yule. ✨🌿
