🌿A gentle, but sad reminder to support our birds during this time of year. While it is easy to want to spring clean, chop trees and hedges, it is nesting season.

Our gardens are left wild with gentle pruning … guided by the creatures that make their home here first 🤎 Be the change this world needs!

PLEASE WITH-HOLD FROM FELLING TREES THIS TIME OF YEAR

For the sake of our wildlife during nesting/baby season.

Our wildlife face so many conflicts living alongside us humans. 98% of the admits we see, have been injured or compromised due to human related issues.
This mornings call broke my heart. A female Barred Owl, inside her cavity nest, inside a hollowed tree, not only lost her eggs to a tree cutting, but ultimately lost her own life. She was tragically injured when the tree came down, and the kindest option was euthanasia. Imagining her fear as she heard the chainsaw, while she hunkered down tighter on her eggs just tears me up. This should not happen, yet it does each nesting season. Tree work really should be halted this time of year. For the sake of our wildlife during nesting/baby season. RIP good Momma… so sorry we couldn’t fix you.

Bat season helpline details 🖤

The National Bat Helpline is officially in its peak season and, therefore, operating an Out of Hours service for emergency bat care and crime calls only.

As well as our normal service during weekdays from 9:30am - 4:30pm, our amazing volunteers will also answer calls from 6pm - 10pm. Additionally, volunteers will answer calls on weekends and bank holidays from 10am - 10pm.

Thank you to the volunteers who dedicate their spare time to helping bats on the Volunteer Bat Care Helpline!

Let’s bring back the hum! 🐝 It's World Bee Day!

Perhaps my favourite insect (to be fair, second to the Cockchaffer) but bees are not only beautiful little things, they are essential for a healthy ecosystem.

Rates are worryingly in decline. We do our bit at Leaf Retreat, with lots of pollinator-friendly plants, as wild as possible, and, certainly no pesticides!

With that we have welcomed hairy footed bees early spring and they loved the comfrey this year. Only a few bumbles, including one with a poorly leg who enjoyed a few days in a bee bowl - given the finest flowers and sugar water until it managed to fly off and nature to take her course.

🌙🌼 Embrace the Energy of the Solar Eclipse! 🌑🌙✨

In the UK between 10-12noon tomorrow (the 29th March) we will witness a partial solar eclipse. Eclipses have traditionally been considered a time of change and new beginnings. The eclipse also falls on a new moon and it is considered to be more potent making it a super time to set intentions for the year ahead, and to align your actions with those intentions!

🌙🌼Astrologers say that this period is an ending to a growth cycle that started in April 2023, so maybe stop and take some time to think what that lesson was and look at how far you have come! For those of you who resonate deeply with spring energy and the fiery spirit of Aries this eclipse might feel particularly significant with a pull to make major action and bold steps forward wether that be a new relationship, new job or a new you!

🌙🌼 Leaf Retreat has a new beginning too! I am super excited to announce that tomorrow, after the eclipse, Leaf Retreat will be launching its very own private community! This will be a dedicated space for trustworthy and detailed complimentary medicine, health, and wellbeing information, with lovely nature and foraging posts to get you out and about in nature. It will be a safe to join in shared experiences and deepen our connection to nature amongst like-minded souls!
