How I love being a carer ❤️

It’s not the big things… it’s the quiet, fragile moments that stay with you.

Earning someone’s trust so gently that, one day, they let you help change their bedding — something so simple, yet so deeply personal.

Another asking to go shopping with me, not just have it done for them… because connection matters just as much as care.

And this morning…
Caught in her dementia, frightened, struggling to catch her breath — and all I could do was hold her hand and stay with her until it passed.
And somehow, that was enough.

Being the calm in someone’s confusion.
Being the hand they hold when the world doesn’t make sense anymore.

This job is hard. But it’s full of love in the most human, powerful way. 💛

OPEN THE DOOR FOR EVERYONE 🚪
A little update from James Street Surgery — our fundraising journey for a new automatic glass entrance door is underway, and every step really does count.
Our display wall in the waiting room is starting to come to life, with each footprint representing a donation and bringing us closer to our £10,000 goal.
The Book Sale is ongoing in the waiting room, and it’s lovely to see people already getting involved.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far — your kindness is already making a difference.
If you’re visiting the surgery and would like to help, every little bit moves us further along the path.
Together, we’re opening the door for everyone. 🚪

This afternoon I completed a 90-minute online training session: Oral Health Training – Adult & Caring for Others 🦷

The session explored the important link between oral health and overall wellbeing and provided practical guidance on supporting adults who may struggle with daily mouth care.
I learned more about:
• recognising early signs of oral disease and dry mouth
• how poor oral health can affect general health and quality of life
• effective daily mouth care routines and fluoride use
• reducing the impact of sugar on teeth
• tools and adaptations that make oral care easier
• supporting people who feel anxious about dental visits

For me, learning never stops. Even small improvements in knowledge can make a big difference to someone’s comfort, confidence and overall wellbeing.
I’m always looking for ways to grow and do better for the people I support 💚

Proud to see this project underway at James Street Surgery. 🚪🚪🚪

Improving access for everyone really matters, and I’m grateful to be part of a community working towards a more welcoming surgery for all.

If you’re visiting, take a look at the display wall and book sale in the waiting room — every little bit helps.

☕️ Sunday mood: gloves off, hoist parked, smile still on 😄

A little fun caricature of me in work mode – because even on a day off, caring is kind of part of who I am.

Hope everyone’s having a gentle, restful Sunday… whatever that looks like for you 💛
Now, where did I put my second coffee? ☕️😉☕️

Today I took a day off work and spent it in Mablethorpe at the
Diversity & Inclusion in Physical Activity Workshop with and .
I’m truly grateful to the Louth Triathlon Club chair Rowena Jayne Burgess for bringing this course to my attention — it was a fantastic opportunity and a really inspiring, thought-provoking day.
So relevant for everything I do, both as a Triathlon coach and as a self-employed carer.
One of the key messages that really stayed with me:
👉 Equality means giving everyone the same.
👉 Equity means giving each person what they need to have the same opportunity.

In sport, not everyone needs the same training plan — they need the right one.
In care, not everyone needs the same support — they need the right support.

I came away with three personal Inclusive Pledges that I’m committed to putting into practice:
• I will adapt my coaching so everyone can train at their own level
• I will respect dignity, independence and choice in my care work
• I will stay aware of people who may feel excluded and offer support with respect.

A day off well spent — and a reminder of why inclusion really matters.

Super proud moment today! 🎉

Passed my 2025 Administration of Medication for Carers & Support Staff course with 100% ✅.

Really pleased to now be a member of the Professional Carers Network too — it means I don’t have to research all my courses by myself anymore. Such a helpful community with lots of knowledgeable, competent people.
Onwards and upwards! 💪📚

🎄 Working on Christmas — and honestly, I don’t mind at all. There’s something ace about heading out while everyone else is still tucked up under the duvet. Cold, crisp air, quiet roads, Christmas lights glowing.
I’ll be doing what I always do — supporting people with complex health needs and keeping them safe and comfortable. It’s a job we choose, silly hours and all, because it matters.
Wishing everyone a peaceful, kind Christmas 🎄
