The Perfect Erythema in Microneedling 💉
In professional microneedling, erythema is one of the clearest indicators that the treatment has reached an effective therapeutic endpoint. Yes this does slightly vary from client to client based on a variety of factors your Skin Specialist should be taking into account, but essentially this tells us the skin has been stimulated enough to trigger the wound-healing cascade responsible for collagen production, cellular renewal, and improved skin texture.
Why does this matter?
✔️ Controlled inflammation = controlled results
Microneedling works by creating precise micro-injuries in the skin. The right amount of erythema signals healthy vascular response and activation of growth factors without causing unnecessary trauma.
✔️ Too little erythema may indicate under-treatment
Minimal response can mean the needles did not pe*****te deeply enough to adequately stimulate collagen remodeling.
✔️ Excessive erythema is not the goal
Aggressive redness, prolonged inflammation, pinpoint bleeding beyond expected levels, or heat that lingers excessively may suggest overtreatment, increasing downtime and the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, especially in darker skin tones.
The goal is always:
Effective stimulation with minimal unnecessary inflammation 💫
A skilled practitioner adjusts depth, speed, pressure, and technique based on:
Skin thickness
Treatment area
Fitzpatrick skin type
Skin sensitivity
The condition being treated
Remember: Microneedling is not about creating maximum injury, it’s about creating the right injury for optimal regeneration.
Healthy erythema = healthy response 🤎
