Huge thank you to St Consumables Hq for tonights technical information evening in Norwich.

If any of my garage friends haven't spoken to Steve or Owen at ST Consumables, give them a shout!

I swear by all Forte Products, their Rust Pe*******on and Carbon Sprays are the best I've found. Bin the WD40, trust me!!
Fuel and Injector Cleaners that actually work and Emmissions Reducers that are yet to fail me!

Just ordered two more Vision lights with them tonight, some AdBlue, Sealey Cutters and a couple of other bits. Looking forward to seeing who they partner up with next. :)

I would say around 90% of my purchases are from family run independent businesses, STC included. I would much rather work with a family business who I have a personal rapport with, offering great customer service and aftercare, than a national firm who might save me 50p on a product but don't believe in what they're selling and who are probably more worried about my monthly spend value than anything else.

Anyway, give them a look!!!

⚠️⚠️ REMAPPING - Bad Practices !!! ⚠️⚠️

I was having a scroll through market place and saw an advert for a local remapper, so obviously, I went for a little snoop, which then progressed to looking at a few others.

The majority look good. However, a couple of companies are playing with fire.

If a remapper turns up with jump leads and a power converter, WALK AWAY!!

This is one of the most dangerous things you can do when remapping a car, one spike or drop in voltage and the ECU's a paperweight.

Any safe tuner will ask you for access to a plug socket and place your battery on charge with a suitable diagnostic battery support unit.

I'll do a post on what to look for when you are searching for a remap.

Cheapest is not always best, do some checks and ask questions. A good remapper will be happy you're asking before handing over your pride and joy.

This Insignia had an aftermarket reversing camera fitted but no picture on the screen.
Confirmed that an aftermarket headunit had been installed and found multiple wires disconnected/damaged, generally very poorly installed.

New camera to be installed next week. 🤞

Hadn't done one before, but it wasn't too bad atall, the jets only come as a set that connects straight to the pump.
Cut the old hose and cable tied the new one to it so I could pull it through the wing without losing it. A bit of wd40 to help it through the gap, some electrical contact spray on the plug that had a bit of screenwash over spray on it.

All in all, not as bad of a job as I thought it was going to be.

STOP .... USING ..... BUZZ-GUNS!! 😬
Well, that's what I'm assuming has happened here! 🤦‍♀️

Cyl 1 & 2 Spark Plugs are well and truely stuck, I spent nearly half hour trying to get cyl 2 out before calling it quits.
Cyl 1 & 2 have been cross threaded which isn't easy to do by hand, spark plugs should be finger fight after being cracked off.

Cyl 1 & 2 have been tightrned (as much as I dare) and customer unfortunately needs to get them removed (hopefully without them breaking!) and then the threads re-cut.

This is also why I don't use a buzz gun to remove most items, doing things by hand does take longer but you can feel what the thread is doing and avoid breaking things.

Don't forget the simple checks!!
This week I have been called to 3 cars which have no headlights. All 3 had been to a garage or had roadside out to check, 2 said to call me, 1 said call an auto electrician, 'it can't be the bulbs because both wouldn't go at the same time'.

Two cars had infact blown both headlight bulbs, the Peugeot had blown one bulb but it stops the other side from working too.

I also had a Ford 2 weeks ago for brake lights too, center one worked, both rear bulbs blown, booked in for diagnostic thinking it was a wiring fault.

We're all guilty of over complicating things and forgetting to check the basics, but this has to be a record of some sort!! 😂
