We’ve worked our bums off getting ready for Christmas - providing joy on demand - finding Christmassy entertainment whilst completely out of normal routine - stuffed with goodies and alcohol - and now we’re expected to make sparkly New Year’s resolutions to get us fit and healthy again!
What does health really mean in this context?
Does it mean daily HIIT workouts, calorie restrictive diets and intense goals??
For me as a health coach it doesn’t mean that at all.
For me the January to December calendar was decided by man for convenience - it doesn’t actually fit with nature - and doesn’t serve us as a creature 🌿
For me we’re in the middle of winter - all other creatures (and trees!) will be conserving their energy, storing food, sleeping more and being snuggled in their carefully built nests …. Not working out like maniacs, restricting calories and starting a new and sparkly version of themselves.
For me health this January means:
🍋 Gentle detoxing to support my liver and digestive system after all the Toblerone, cheese and Prosecco I’ve consumed.
🥬 Increasing my magnesium and iron rich foods to help soothe my muscles after the stress of running around looking after everyone, to help me get the restful sleep I need.
🚶♀️ Daily walks round the block (or in nature if I can 🌿) to get the vital vitamin d that is needed for every system in my body to function properly - particularly to support my thyroid function.
🙆♀️ Nourishing yoga stretches in the morning and/or before bed to stretch out my tight neck and shoulders I’ve accumulated over December to help me feel calm and to sleep better.
✍️ Journalling, talking, thinking about what I want to let go of that no longer serves me, and what I want to experience more of this spring when I emerge with natural energy and motivation like the rest of nature 🌱and what I need to start putting in place now, in order for that to happen.
Real health should not be extreme in the middle of winter. Real health = seasonal nourishment and nurturing, aligned with your core values and future goals.
If you would like expert support in bridging the gap between how you feel now to how you want to feel this spring 🌷get in touch.
Health coaching = small, regular and achievable changes made to daily habits and nutrition that get you from where you are now to where you want to be - gently, without the extremes.
The magic? - When you focus your attention on what your body needs to function properly - your weight, skin and energy take care of themselves ✨
