Scarlet fever is a contagious infection that mainly affects children and can cause a sore throat, fever and a distinctive rash.

Early recognition and treatment are important to help reduce the risk of complications and limit spread. Community pharmacies can also offer advice on managing symptoms and when further medical care is needed, making them a helpful first point of contact for many minor illnesses. Knowing the signs and where to get help can support quicker recovery. 🌡️👶🩺✨

The MMRV vaccine protects against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chickenpox) and is an important part of the childhood vaccination schedule.

If your child has missed any vaccines, or if you have recently moved to the UK from another country, it is never too late to catch up. The NHS offers free catch-up vaccinations to help ensure children and adults are protected and up to date. Checking your vaccination record and booking missing doses can help protect both your family and the wider community. 💉🛡️👨‍👩‍👧‍👦✨

Children’s dental health is an important part of overall wellbeing, and simple daily habits can help protect young teeth for life.

Drinks that are high in sugar and acidity can damage tooth enamel and increase the risk of decay. Encouraging water or milk, brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, and regular dental check-ups can all support healthy smiles. Starting good oral health habits early can make a lasting difference. 🦷🪥💙✨

We are proud to care for our Lowestoft community every day.

Recently, GP practice staff across the area have experienced an increase in abusive and aggressive behaviour — both in person and over the phone.

We understand that accessing healthcare can sometimes feel frustrating. But abuse towards our teams will never be acceptable.

Our staff are parents, carers, friends and members of this community. They deserve to feel safe at work.

We ask everyone to treat our teams with patience and respect. 💙

Abusive behaviour may result in removal from the practice list.

Let’s work together to create a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

❤️Annual Diabetes Review – Why It Matters❓

Keeping your diabetes under control is essential for your long-term health, and your annual review is a key part of this.

Your yearly check-up helps us:

✔ Check how your diabetes management is working
✔ Identify any potential problems early
✔ Answer your questions and discuss any concerns
✔ Provide personalised advice and support
✔ Help prevent diabetes-related complications

Your review usually has two parts:

🩸Blood Test Appointment - to be booked 1–2 weeks before your main review to allow us to have your results ready to discuss.

Tests include:
• HbA1c – Your average blood sugar levels over the past 2–3 months
• Cholesterol & Lipids – To assess heart health
• Kidney Function (eGFR & Creatinine) – To check how well your kidneys are working

🚨Urine Sample Required

Please bring an early morning urine sample (the first urine passed after waking)
This checks your ACR (Albumin-to-Creatinine Ratio), which can detect early signs of kidney changes.

We may also check:

• Blood pressure
• Weight & height (BMI)

👩‍⚕️Consultation with the Practice Nursing Team

This is the second part of your review, during this appointment we will:

• Go through your test results
• Review your medication
• Discuss diet, exercise and lifestyle
• Check your feet
• Review your eye screening
• Talk about your emotional wellbeing
• Set goals together for the year ahead

How to Prepare:

✔ Attend your blood test appointment in advance
✔ Bring your early morning urine sample
✔ Think about any questions or concerns
✔ Be ready to talk about your diet and activity levels

Your annual diabetes review is a vital part of staying healthy with diabetes. We look forward to seeing you.

❓If you have any questions before your appointment, please contact the practice

🎉 We’re now a Carer Friendly GP Surgery!

We’re delighted to share that High Street Surgery has been officially recognised as a Carer Friendly GP Surgery in partnership with Suffolk Family Carers.

This recognises our commitment to supporting unpaid carers in our community — people who look after a family member, partner or friend who couldn’t manage without their help.

Being a Carer Friendly practice means we aim to:

• Identify carers early
• Offer support and understanding
• Signpost to helpful services
• Work closely with Suffolk Family Carers

If you are a carer, or think you may be one, please let us know — we’re here to help 💙

Thank you to our patients and team for helping us achieve this!
