šŸŒ™ World Sleep Day…why does sleep matter for your Mental Health?

Today is World Sleep Day, a reminder that sleep isn’t a luxury, it’s essential for our emotional wellbeing, mental clarity and nervous system regulation.

Yet for many women, good quality sleep can feel frustratingly out of reach.

Between the mental load of being a mum, busy work schedules, stress, and hormonal changes such as perimenopause, it’s incredibly common to experience broken sleep, racing thoughts at night, or waking in the early hours unable to drift back off. Lack of sleep doesn’t just leave us feeling tired, it can affect our mood, resilience, concentration and overall mental health. There was a stage a few years back I was only getting about 4-5 hours sleep 😓 a night and it completely wrecked my mood, functioning abilities and happiness.

The good news is that sleep is something we can gently support and improve with the right tools and practices šŸŒ™

One of the ways I help clients with sleep is through hypnotherapy. When we enter hypnosis, the brain moves into a deeply relaxed state similar to the REM stage of sleep - the stage where the brain processes information, restores emotional balance and allows the mind and body to reset.

Hypnosis allows the brain to access this restorative state even when sleep has been difficult, helping calm the nervous system and retrain the mind for healthier sleep patterns.

At Balance Holistic Therapies & Hypnotherapy, I offer several ways to support better sleep:

šŸ’¤Sleep Solutions Session – Wednesday 1st April (6:30–9pm)
A deeply calming evening including mindfulness practices, soothing meditation, facial massage techniques, a mini sound bath, guidance on essential oils and simple tips to help your mind and body prepare for restful sleep.

šŸ’¤ Sleep Solution Relaxation Ritual (March Treatment of the Month)
šŸ’œ A 60-minute treatment designed to calm your nervous system and prepare your body for deeper, more restorative sleep. This includes:
šŸ’œ A purifying back cleanse with steam, exfoliation and warm bath foam, followed by a relaxing candle massage
šŸ’œ A sleep-inducing facial experience using calming essential oil blends such as lavender, frankincense and Roman chamomile
60 minutes of uninterrupted relaxation to help your body completely switch off.

šŸ’¤ Tropic ā€œSo Sleepyā€ Range
Beautiful natural products designed to support a calming bedtime routine and signal to your body that it’s time to wind down.

If sleep has been a struggle lately, please know you’re not alone, and support is available. šŸŒ™

If you’d like to join the Sleep Solutions Session, try the Sleep Solution Ritual, or learn more about how hypnotherapy can improve your sleep, feel free to message me.

Oh, and I highly recommend this book šŸ“– by Matthew Walker - Why We Sleep.

Sweet dreams,
Katie šŸ’™

This week has been about investing in ME. Before you can hold space for others it’s so important to feel grounded and confident. I wanted to fine tune a few things so…

ā£ļø I started the week with completing some training on Domestic Abuse - my role as a Holistic/Massage therapist and trainer, and Clincial Hypnotherapist I thought it would be invaluable to learn about the signs of DB and feel more confident in offering support ā˜ŗļø

šŸŽµ I had a refresher training day for the Himalayan Singing Bowl Massage Course and now I’m excited to start offering this treatment from April!

🧠 I’m now a qualified Meditation Practitioner Teacher and Mindfulness Life Coach and will be implementing elements of mindfulness in my NEW wellbeing session - coming very soon!

In essence, mindfulness is a practice I needed for myself. My ADHD brain rushes off in so many different directions and I wanted to learn some more tools for my own tool box. To then share with others too.

I have a BIG announcement šŸ“£ to make this month and I’m so excited to share it. It’s been a dream of mine for a long time and I’m so happy 😃

šŸ¤šŸ¤ The in between bit, the time where no one knows what day of the week it is and feeling full with festive treats! 🫢

But an opportunity to say I hope you had a wonderful Christmas šŸŽ„ and are looking forward to a new year ahead.

It can be a challenging time of year, for all sorts of reasons but a time to reflect, and look to make positive changes for 2026.

My focus next year is to help women struggling with physical and mental stress; burnout; and a muddled mind when dealing with a late ADHD diagnosis, and the ongoing challenges that comes with neurodivergence; physical pain (e.g. fibromyalgia); and women’s reproductive health issues such as endometriosis and period pain.

Alongside this, perimenopause can be completely debilitating, confusing and isolating - my personal experience with this and a late diagnosis of ADHD and continued educational study, can support you with your journey. Whether this be the mental challenges and/or physical ones, such as changes in your skin, body shape, confidence and emotions.

I’m excited to fully launch šŸš€ my Solution Focused Hypnotherapy services in person and online too! Working with our own thoughts is so powerful and empowering.

Combining touch therapies (massage), sound therapy (sound journeys and himalayan singing bowls body treatment), and hypnotherapy have massively helped me to improve my mental health - and with that physical symptoms of perimenopause and a racing mind.

Join me here to see how your mind and body can be balanced, in a nurturing, supportive and productive way, with TOUCH, SOUND and/or HYPNOTHERAPY.

Best wishes, Katie xx šŸ¤

Be kind to your mind šŸ’™

The language we use matters 🧔

Reframing ADHD traits helps shift the focus from ā€œproblemsā€ to ā€œpotential.ā€

Which of these reframes resonates with you most?

I love this analogy! My initial interpretation of this is that we each have control over the size of the spoon in the glass, how quickly we stir it and if we even need to stir it at all.

Metaphorically speaking (and metaphors play a big part in the psychotherapy aspect of your Solution Focused Hypnotherapy sessions with me) our thoughts šŸ’ govern the outcomes of what we see in front of us, and influence how we behave. Keep churning over what comes into your mind and your thoughts can become foggy, muddy and difficult to understand.

Give yourself the opportunity to be still, and take a step back from prodding and analysing the tiniest things you see in front of you.

This can be challenging and I know first hand how the cycle šŸ” of negative thinking can spiral šŸŒ€..

One thought leads to another, and another, and another, and it eats you up inside. And before you know it, you have created a major catastrophe in your head. You can’t help it.

But it doesn’t need to be this way.

šŸ’™Baby steps
šŸ’™Forward focus on small possibilities.
šŸ’™After all, your brain 🧠 doesn’t know the difference between imagination and reality. You CAN create a better version of yourself. I’m just here to guide you in a different direction.

šŸ—“ļø10 months of study (one weekend a month)
šŸ•£120 hours of class-room based training
šŸ™‹šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļøNumerous client case study sessions and homestudy

And I’m officially a Clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapist/Psychotherapist!

I now feel at peace with myself and my mind. I’ve been able to accept who I am, embrace my ADHD nuances, raise my confidence and believe that I’m good enough.

Life throws curveballs and this time around I’ve started to heal myself inside out.

I’m feeling so proud of myself..
I haven’t felt this in tune with myself since I studied for my Psychology and Sociology degree 20+ years ago and then going into the Beauty Industry in my mid 20’s. They say every 9 years we look to move forward in a different way with a new beginning. That’s most certainly true when I reflect back.

Now to make plans for the future and become the best version of myself to be able to help facilitate the best version of others.

This 100% describes what it’s like for me and I bet the majority of us with ADHD. And this had got to an overwhelming point where I couldn’t attend meetings, work events and socials with my friends. When I could, I felt that I wasn’t being myself due to the side effects of the medication I was taking, and it dulled my sparkle.

By taking the time and space to understand my brain, triggers, and being kinder to myself I beginning to unravel the real me. I now say no if I can’t or don’t want to do something and standing up for myself. It’s still a challenge living with ā€˜my brain’ but nearly 10 months into my Solution Focused Hypnotherapy training and huge shifts have been able to happen.

I totally get what it feels like to juggle the hormones, stresses and being a woman in your 40’s with a recent diagnosis of ADHD.

I’m currently still taking on a handful of new clients at a reduced rate and this will increase when I qualify at the end of June 😊 So I’d love to hear from you if you’d like to find out what it involves.

šŸ”µ It’s Mental Health Awareness Week šŸ”µ
And this one sits close to home…

I’ve lived with anxiety, depression. And ADHD (undiagnosed until recently - August last year). I know what it’s like to feel stuck in your own head, trying to make sense of the overwhelm while putting on a brave face.

For a long time, I felt like I was just getting by. That’s why I do what I do now.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helped me shift my focus—gently, steadily—from survival to something softer, calmer, and more hopeful. This approach doesn’t dwell on the past. It meets you where you are and helps you build towards where you want to be:

* Less anxiety
* More clarity
* Better sleep
* A stronger sense of self

If you’re struggling, know this: there is a way through. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Just take the next small step.

I’m here if you ever want to talk šŸ—£ļø

🧠 Hypnotherapy is often misunderstood—and that’s totally fair.
We’ve all seen the stage shows and movie versions that make it look like some kind of mind trick.

But real hypnotherapy? It’s much more down-to-earth. It’s about helping you relax, feel safe, and create space for change—without losing control or zoning out.

Below ā¬‡ļø I’ve shared a few common myths I hear all the time, along with the truth behind them.

If you’ve been curious about hypnotherapy but weren’t quite sure what to expect, this is for you.

Got questions or something you’ve always wondered about it? Feel free to drop me a message or leave a comment—I’m always happy to chat.

STRESS is part of modern life—but it doesn’t have to run the show.

In the UK, over 74% of adults have felt so stressed in the last year that they struggled to cope (Mental Health Foundation, 2023).

It can quietly affect sleep, digestion, focus, and overall wellbeing.

🧠 Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy offers a calm, supportive space to:
• Gently slow down racing thoughts
• Reconnect with your inner resources
• Focus on what’s working—and build from there

If you’re feeling the weight of stress, know that change is possible.
You don’t have to do it alone ā˜ŗļø

Let’s have a chat—message me to find out how hypnotherapy could support you.
