This week's astrology is so exciting, despite what some naysayers might predict. Two personal planets, Venus and Mars, are going to be Cazimi ("in the heart of the Sun") and then conjunct. The screenshot of this morning's chart is below. You can see Mercury (who will be Cazmini later this month), Venus, the Sun, and then Mars all lined up. The circle with the horizontal line represents the Ascendant, so you can tell I took this picture shortly after sunrise.
Let's start with tomorrow, January 6. Venus reaches the nadir of her descent into the Underworld. Since November, she's been out of sight, traveling very close to the Sun. Tomorrow Venus reaches her superior conjunction, meaning Venus is on the opposite side of the Sun from the Earth. Following the Cazimi, Venus begins her return as the more mature Evening Star. You'll be able to see her in the evening sky starting in late February/early March depending on your view of the horizon and ambient light pollution.
But what does this mean? Capricorn rules systems, structures, and our responsibility to those frameworks. Capricorn is often misinterpreted as cold, calculating, and ambitious to the point of self-destruction. But really, Capricorn is the place in the Zodiac where we're encouraged to go after our goals and to make the world a better place in doing so. Sagittarian optimism fuels Capricorn's sense of social responsibility; Aquarius then takes Capricorn's work and spreads it out for all of humanity. Capricorn is very aware of social rules and norms, how those things affect our social interactions, and is where we work to change or improve upon those systems.
With Venus in this space, she's bringing in her values of beauty, love, grace, and art. She's reminding us that goals without values are nothing but vaporware. And that we can create structures and systems filled with beauty and love. Boring isn't effective to Venus! As a personal planet, Venus is focusing you on what you're doing in your life to create beauty and bring love into the world, as well as where you're caught in the limitations of the system. Your relationships may undergo so deep shifts toward being more grounded, accountable, and self-sustaining as Venus makes her way through the Sun's energy. When Venus reemerges, you may find that you're more direct, focused, and ready to make real commitments to your art and heart.
I know some astrologers say this time is hard on Venus and that we're headed into a period of violence and pain. It's true that Venus under *unconscious* stress exhibits jealousy, boredom, and self-indulgence. But when I think about Inanna's descent, she boldly confronts these parts of herself. Inanna is conscious to the fact that she is entering the Underworld to die and be reborn. She willingly (although hesitatingly!) sheds her ego and its tools during this descent. If you are aware of this energy and the possibility that it can be used for cruelty, you're less likely to engage in such behavior.
The house where you have Capricorn is where you're going to feel these conjunctions and Cazimis the most. It's the part of life where you'll be asked to reflect on your relationships. You'll be feeling a bit more practical and pragmatic, but also, there's a chance for big breakthroughs, huge downloads, unexpected gifts, and proclamations of love. Are you following through on your commitments? You'll know soon enough, Astro Witch!
