Sports massage is great for anyone who works out, because even small amounts of exercise can cause lactic acid to build up in your muscles.

A good yawn is so satisfying, isn’t it?�Many of my clients start to apologise when they find themselves yawning towards the end of their treatment - but I actually take it as a compliment!

While there can be a bit of discomfort during a Sports Massage, it should never be painful. As your muscles start to release and unwind, it’s only natural for the rest of your body to relax too.

Our body adapts to what we do the majority of our day or night. Modern life is centred around having the arms in front of our body, for driving, working on a laptop, or phone, and although it’s a natural movement for humans, it is not however, meant to held for pre-longed periods!

Try taking a “reset” when you’re on your phone or at the computer, even if you can’t take a break - you can surely have a 10 second fidget break!

Coming away from that locked, rigid posture means the body resets lessening the burden on the muscles.

Sports massage isn’t just for backs and legs—it’s great for arms, hands, and fingers too.

As a therapist, I often get lactic acid build-up in my fingers, making them stiff, and sometimes my arms feel heavy. That’s why I see another therapist myself, to keep everything in top shape - for maintenance.

Remember, your hands work and sometimes they might need a helping hand!

As a Sports Massage therapist, I love using analogies—they make complex ideas easier to grasp.

Here’s one of my favourites: imagine an elastic band ball left out in the sun. As it heats up and sweats, the bands start sticking together. Muscles work in a similar way—when you exercise and get hot, the fibres can become sticky. Even with good post-workout stretching, lactic acid can build up, causing those fibres to bind together and form what we call a “knot” - which will restrict your movement.

As a Sports massage therapist I often suggest stretches to people as aftercare. Stretching is a powerful way to not only avoid pain, but to keep a good range of movement in the joints.

You really don't have to spend too much time on it either - a 40 second stretch a few times a day will enable your muscles to reset and gain valuable oxygen and nutrients - meaning they can perform at optimum potential.

In the image, this is a simple stretch that really helps the neck if you have been driving or sitting at a desk.
