In sports massage, one of the core principles we focus on is maintaining symmetry throughout the body. When one side becomes tighter, weaker, or overworked compared to the other, the body begins to compensate, and that’s when imbalances turn into pain, restricted movement, and injury.

Shoulders creeping up toward your ears? You’re not alone!

It’s amazing how much tension we carry without even realising it. When I work through the tight spots and follow with a soft tissue release, just like in the photo, clients’ shoulders often drop a full inch (or more!) from where they started.

Pain between the shoulder blades often indicates that the muscles in that area are overworked because the chest muscles aren’t pulling their weight.

To help correct this imbalance, try stretching your chest by leaning into a doorway with your arms outstretched. You may find this stretch quite uncomfortable - that’s a sign your pectoral muscles have tightened and shortened from lack of use, adapting to a slouched posture.
