🎾 Tennis Elbow: More Than Just a Tennis Problem! 💪

Did you know tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) isn’t exclusive to athletes? It happens when the tendons on the outside of your elbow get overworked, think repetitive motions like typing, lifting, or even cooking!

Symptoms to watch for:

Pain or burning on the outer elbow

Weak grip strength

Discomfort when shaking hands or lifting objects

Quick tips for relief:
✅ Rest & avoid repetitive motions
✅ Ice the area 15–20 mins at a time
✅ Gentle stretching & strengthening exercises
✅ Consider a supportive brace

Most cases improve with consistent care, but if pain persists, it’s best to consult a professional.

💡 Pro Tip: Prevention is key! Strengthen your forearms, take breaks from repetitive tasks, and use proper ergonomics.

FAQ Friday: Can physiotherapy help with headaches?

Yes, in many cases, it can.

A lot of headaches actually come from tension and stiffness in the neck, shoulders, and upper back (often called tension-type or cervicogenic headaches). Things like long hours at a desk, poor posture, stress, or muscle tightness can all play a role.

Physiotherapy focuses on identifying and treating the root cause of your headaches, not just the symptoms. Treatment may include:
💆‍♀️ Hands-on therapy to reduce muscle tension
🧘 Exercises to improve mobility and posture
💡 Advice to help prevent headaches returning

If your headaches are linked to muscle or joint issues, physio can be a really effective way to reduce frequency and intensity, and help you feel more in control.

Send us a message and we can book you in with an expert physio who can treat headaches.

Shoulder pain slowing you down? You’re not alone.

Whether it’s from long hours at a desk, lifting at the gym, or just everyday wear and tear, shoulder pain can creep in and start affecting even the simplest tasks, like reaching overhead or getting a good night’s sleep.

Here are a few common causes:
• Poor posture (especially from sitting or phone use)
• Muscle imbalances or weakness
• Overuse or repetitive strain
• Injuries like rotator cuff issues

The good news? Most shoulder pain can be treated effectively with the right physiotherapy approach.

At our clinic, we focus on:
✔️ Identifying the root cause (not just treating symptoms)
✔️ Improving mobility and strength
✔️ Helping you return to pain-free movement, safely and confidently

Don’t ignore the early signs, addressing shoulder pain sooner can prevent it from becoming a long-term issue.

💬 If you’ve been dealing with shoulder discomfort, drop us a message or book an assessment today.

FAQ Friday: How long does recovery usually take?

Recovery time can vary depending on the type of injury, its severity, and your overall health and activity level. Some minor muscle strains may improve within a couple of weeks, while more complex injuries (like ligament injuries or long-standing pain) may take several weeks or months to fully recover.

The good news is that physiotherapy focuses on guided, progressive recovery. Your physiotherapist will assess your injury, identify the root cause, and create a personalised treatment and exercise plan to help you recover as safely and efficiently as possible.

Sticking to your rehab exercises, attending sessions, and gradually returning to activity all play a big role in how quickly you recover.

Every recovery journey is different, but the goal is always the same: helping you return to movement with confidence. 💪

⚠️ Do You Have Lower Back Pain?

Lower back pain is one of the most common issues we see in clinic. Whether it’s a dull ache after sitting all day or a sharp pain when bending or lifting, it can affect your work, sleep, exercise, and daily life.

But not all back pain is the same. Here are three common causes of lower back pain we see as physiotherapists 👇

1️⃣ Muscle Strain

Often caused by lifting something awkwardly, sudden movements, or overuse.

You might notice:

Pain after lifting or exercise

Tightness or stiffness in the lower back

Pain when bending or twisting

The good news is this type of injury often responds very well to physiotherapy, movement, and strengthening exercises.

2️⃣ Disc Irritation

The discs in your spine act like cushions between the bones. When irritated, they can cause:

Pain in the lower back

Pain when sitting for long periods

Pain that may travel into the glutes or leg

Targeted physiotherapy can help reduce pressure on the spine and improve mobility.

3️⃣ Poor Posture or Prolonged Sitting

Many people spend 6–10 hours a day sitting, which can place stress on the lower back.

Common signs include:

Stiffness after sitting

Pain that improves when moving around

Tight hips or hamstrings

Small changes to posture, movement habits, and strengthening exercises can make a huge difference.

💡 When should you see a physio?

Consider getting assessed if:

Pain lasts longer than 1–2 weeks

It keeps returning

It affects your sleep or daily activities

Pain travels down your leg

Early treatment can prevent small issues becoming long-term problems.
