Delighted to share our new publication in epilepsy research: “Vitamin D3 prevents epileptic seizures by modulating the Ras signalling pathway via Gnb1 and Casr in acute epilepsy mouse models.”

This study provides new mechanistic insights into the neuroprotective role of vitamin D3 in acute epilepsy. Using PTZ- and KA-induced mouse models, we found that vitamin D3 reduced seizure activity, alleviated hippocampal neuronal damage, and modulated the Casr–Gnb1–Ras signalling pathway.

These findings suggest that vitamin D3 may have potential as an adjunctive neuroprotective strategy in epilepsy and open new directions for understanding the molecular links between calcium signalling, Ras pathway regulation and seizure-related brain injury.

I am pleased to share our latest research published in Frontiers in Nutrition:
γ-Tocotrienol inhibits HeLa cell proliferation likely via modulation of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signalling pathway

This study investigates the anticancer potential of γ-tocotrienol (γ-T3), a natural form of vitamin E, in human cervical cancer (HeLa) cells. The findings suggest that γ-T3 suppresses cancer cell proliferation, induces G0/G1 cell cycle arrest, and promotes apoptosis, likely through modulation of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, a key regulator of tumour growth and survival.
Notably, γ-T3 demonstrated inhibitory effects comparable to the PI3K inhibitor wortmannin, and combined treatment further enhanced anti-proliferative activity. These results provide mechanistic evidence supporting the potential role of nutrition-relevant bioactive compounds in cancer prevention research and as possible adjunct strategies.
