I was honoured to be invited to the official opening of the Reclaim Life Centre in Leighton Buzzard on 30th June. This charity is a wonderful local mental health resource providing 5 free life coaching sessions for mild to moderate mental health problems. All life coaches are volunteers using the effective Human Givens therapeutic approach to recovery. It is my privilege to be their clinical consultant supervisor. The centre is the realisation of the dreams and aspirations of Mr Harry & Mrs Linda Sear (Chairperson) who have relentlessly given up their own time and resources over the past decade. www.reclaimlife.net

Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) affects over 3% of the adult population. Starting in childhood, it can cause significant problems with attention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and emotional regulation. It is commonly missed and misdiagnosed. However, once recognised and diagnosed, it can be treated and managed with medication and psychosocial interventions.

The Royal College of Psychiatrists has released a new information resource on Adult ADHD.

https://www.iampsychiatry.com/adult-adhd-assessment

We're thrilled to announce the release of a new information resource resource for adults with ADHD.

Designed for individuals with ADHD, this comprehensive information guide aims to empower and educate. With the number of diagnosed cases rising, enhancing awareness and understanding is crucial. The resource covers symptoms, assessments, self-help strategies, and treatment options.

It has been developed in collaboration with those who have lived experience with ADHD, ensuring it reflects their needs.

Adult ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder and learning difficulty which starts in childhood. It is also recognised as a disability under the Equality Act 2010. Fortunately it can be diagnosed and treated but unfortunately it is commonly missed and misdiagnosed.

Get in touch if you think you may have been misdiagnosed and need to be screened for Adult ADHD. Accurate diagnosis and treatment can often be life-changing.

People with ADHD experience heightened physical and emotional sensitivity and reactivity. ADHD assessment, ADHD diagnosis and ADHD medication titration can help manage emotional dysregulation.

People with ADHD feel emotions more intensely than do people without the condition. For many, difficulty with emotional regulation is one of the most challenging symptoms to manage.

Myth: Asking and talking about su***de will make su***de more likely to happen.

Fact: For many years, people have believed that asking about su***de could put the idea of su***de into someone’s head. This is not the case. If someone is thinking of su***de, they are already thinking about su***de. Opening up a safe conversation around su***de and asking them "Are you experiencing thoughts of su***de?" gives them a chance to open up about how they are feeling and learn what support is available.

If you are worried about opening up a conversation around su***de with a young person, call HOPELINEUK on 0800 068 4141.

Rest in peace. Died too young but she lived life to the max.

Rest in peace, Sarah Harding ❤️

Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding has died aged 39 after battling breast cancer.

The singer’s mother Marie broke the news in an Instagram post on Sunday, announcing that her daughter had died that morning.

Alongside a black and white photo of the star, she wrote: ‘It’s with deep heartbreak that today I’m sharing the news that my beautiful daughter Sarah has sadly passed away.

‘Many of you will know of Sarah’s battle with cancer and that she fought so strongly from her diagnosis until her last day. She slipped away peacefully this morning. ‘

Marie continued: ‘I’d like to thank everyone for their kind support over the past year. It meant the world to Sarah and it gave her great strength and comfort to know she was loved.

‘I know she won’t want to be remembered for her fight against this terrible disease – she was a bright shining star and I hope that’s how she can be remembered instead – Marie x.’

This controversial and groundbreaking study by Professor David Nutt and colleagues in 2010 highlighted that alcohol caused the most harm to users and others when compared to other legal and illegal drugs. Drinking and enjoying alcohol responsibly minimises harm.

Problem drinking has doubled over the past year with at least 8 million problem drinkers in the UK now. We have been seeing many more patients presenting with alcohol dependence and in urgent need of our help to stop drinking safely.

We provide safe and private home alcohol detox for patients drinking up to 30 units of alcohol each day. Please contact us on 0800 779 7800 if you need our help or advice.

Psilocybin ("magic mushrooms") is as effective as SSRI antidepressant Escitalopram in treating moderate to severe depression, according to a new study by The Centre for Psychedelic Research at Imperial College London.

Results of a small phase 2 study show psilocybin, the psychoactive compound in "magic mushrooms," is as effective in easing the symptoms of moderate-to-severe depression as a widely prescribed SSRI.
