National Minor Illness Centre - NMIC

National Minor Illness Centre - NMIC Managing minor illness in primary care - resources, courses and products We accept no sponsorship; our advice is completely independent.

The National Minor Illness Centre (NMIC) is based in an NHS general practice in Luton, England. This is a training and research practice, accredited by the Royal College of General Practitioners. The tutors at NMIC are all practising primary care clinicians who see patients with minor illness on a daily basis and understand the problems which their management may bring. We are the authors of the standard text on minor illness, which is now in its fourth edition and has sold over 20,000 copies, and we provide clinical input to Clinical Knowledge Summaries / Prodigy. We are based in a modern purpose-built medical centre about 30 miles north of London, with a large conference room and plenty of free parking. We are close to London Luton Airport and the M1 motorway. For our location and contact details click here. Since 1997 we have designed and run our own educational courses in minor illness management. These were designed for nurses, but more recently they have also been accessed by GP registrars, pharmacists, paramedics and ECPs. We also offer the Nmic Minor Illness Diploma, an established qualification in minor illness, and regular update sessions. Nmic courses are unique in being taught by two experienced practising GPs who are recognised as experts in their field. In the early years we had many students who undertook their clinical placements in our own practice. This experience, together with our observation of the difficulties and triumphs of students undertaking the diploma course, have given us a profound insight into the learning needs of health professionals in this field.
