Access to Appointments:

We have listened to patient feedback and recognise that access to appointments, including online booking is important to you. With the ever-growing demand within the NHS, we are continuously looking at ways we can increase capacity. To achieve this, and ensure patients are receiving the best possible care, we have opted to use the Rapid Health Triage tool which will allow us to maximise availability, and ensure patients are seeing the right clinician in the appropriate time frame. We will be coming out with more detailed information over the next few weeks, however, in the meantime, please ensure that all your contact details are up to date with the Practice including and most importantly your email address if you have one.

As we come into winter, we are seeing a rise in Covid cases both in our patients and staff. The appropriate infection controls measures have been taken here at the surgery, including staff wearing masks. We would urge our patients to wear a mask when attending the surgery (regardless of whether you have Covid symptoms or not), in order to protect our more vulnerable patients visiting the surgery, and to keep our staff well, so we can continue to provide a fully staffed service through the winter months.
Thank you.

Wycliffe medical practice - covid and flu vaccinations autumn 2024

The national programme starts on 3rd October 2024 . It is a slightly later start as the JCVI have suggested this to ensure maximum protection during the most at risk time of the year . This year the JCVI ( joint committee on vaccinations and immunisations ) has advised that the following groups are eligible for flu jabs
-aged 65 or older ( was 75 and over last year )
-have certain long-term health conditions
-are pregnant
-live in a care home
are the main carer for an older or disabled person, or receive a carer's allowance
-live with someone who has a weakened immune system eg someone having chemotherapy

So far 821 patients over 65 have booked in for their flu jab at the surgery and 364 patients under 65 have booked in .
At the time of planning these clinics we weren’t sure when the nationally ordered covid jabs would arrive and so for October the flu jabs will be generally given seperately to covid jabs .
We have flu clinics on every afternoon from 3rd October and also some evening clinics on a Tuesday evening during our extended access clinics
In terms of covid vaccines we are planning these on Saturday mornings 19th October , 26th October and 16th November and some Tuesday evenings . Depending on demand we have other dates potentially available .
Care home and housebound patients will be prioritised and should be vaccinated in the next 2-3 weeks .
This is from the BBC website today “Fewer people came forward for their flu vaccine last year and if the same happens again the UK could be in for a worse winter, health officials are warning.
There were at least 18,000 flu-related deaths over the last couple of years, despite being relatively mild flu seasons, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).”
It goes on to say “Northern hemisphere nations, like the UK, look to southern hemisphere ones, like Australia, to predict what could be coming.
Australia's winter flu season looks to be ending and data reveals, that it was similar to recent ones.
Southern Africa and some countries in South America - Chile, Ecuador, and Uruguay - had high levels of flu though.”
If you have had a text message from us inviting you to book a jab you can do this by following the link on the message ( all vaccine appts available are shown if you do this ) . We will be sending out text messages to patients in the younger age group of over 65s (65-75) in coming days as we have initially focussed on those in the older age groups who are generally at higher risk .
Historically our uptake of flu and covid jabs in the older age group has been very high but , as is the case nationally, those younger than 65 but with long term health conditions making them eligible have been lower and we would particularly urge this group to be vaccinated this autumn .
