I'm back from Huddersfield - what an amazing 2 day course that was! Consolidating knowledge and techniques that I have learned over the past year with the Pro Sport Academy 'Go-To Therapist' Mentorship with world renowned physiotherapist Dave O'Sullivan and his team. Pain science and how our nervous system deals with injury is fascinating, and how we as therapists can work with the nervous system to bring about change is mind blowing stuff! If you are fed up of being in pain, then message me and together we can bring about positive change.
Back 2 Active is based in Yorkley, but I am also available at TLS in Cinderford a day and a half a week (please see their website).

Currently in sunny (not!!) Huddersfield on the 2 day Go to therapist course, which I started with the mentorship last year. I'm refining techniques and learning new ones, so watch out when I come back, I'll be on fire! 😁

Pre-event massage:- Should you have a massage before an event? Absolutely! But this comes with conditions. When used as part of your regular training plan with a therapist that you have worked with before, it can be really beneficial in getting your body ready for the event. However, if you have not had sports massage before, or are using a new massage therapist, then a massage a day or so before a race may not be ideal. Ensure you have tried out your new therapist at least a couple of times in the few weeks leading up to the event, and most importantly, let them know if you are about to do an event, and they will tailor their treatment to suit. Deep massage can cause some muscle soreness the following day or two, and you certainly don't want to be feeling sore before your run, so swapping out the really deep stuff for something more appropriate is desirable.
Occasionally, massage therapists are available at the actual event to give treatments immediately before your run, and these treatments can be great at getting your muscles warm and ready to work. Massages given at this point are usually only about 10 minutes long and tend to be fast and vigorous, although, importantly, not deep. This can really help with your warm-up routine, but please be aware it is not a substitute for a proper warm up.
As with every other part of your training routine, sports massage /soft tissue therapy should be factored in with thought and planning to ensure the best results.
Good luck with your event!

If you are training for a marathon or half marathon, incorporating regular sports massage into your training plan can be really beneficial. Running places significant stress on the muscles, tendons and ligaments, and sports massage can help with performance and recovery by improving blood and lymphatic circulation, improving joint mobility, relieving muscular tension, and identifying and treating problem areas to prevent injury (those niggles that get worse).
Appointments are available at Yorkley or Cinderford, please message me to book or find out more.

I love listening to health and well-being podcasts, and one of my favourites at the moment is Dr Michael Moseley's series 'Just one thing'. They are only 15 minutes so I don't have to pay attention for too long! One episode is all about gut bacteria and how important it is for us to have good health. He recommended making your own sauerkraut, so I did on Sunday. This is my first ever attempt so not sure how it will turn out, but I have to wait another week or so to find out, after the fermentation process has done it's thing. Anyone made their own sauerkraut? I'm planning on making kombucha next, never done that before either. Any advice or tips welcome!
