                                            DRAFT LETTER TO THE FORESTER
I would like to make your readers aware of the Bream Voluntary Car Service (BVCS) which provides transport for residents to medical appointments eg hospital, doctor, dentists etc. We collect from the client’s home, take them to the appointment, wait while they are seen and drive them home again. We drive at any time – evenings, weekend, bank holidays – you name it, we aim to be available.
We make a charge to cover the actual costs of transport – at a rate of 45p / mile charged from the driver’s home and back. We currently have 10 drivers who between them cover around 30,000 miles a year and we are getting pretty close to the limit of the number of trips we can make.
The time commitment for drivers is entirely up to them – maybe a couple of trips a month, maybe 3 or 4 or more a week – we simply ask that they do what they can with the time they have available. All drivers are DBS checked and we have a supply of wheelchairs for those clients who need one.
We understand that many voluntary organisations throughout the country are struggling to find those willing to help, but without them those organisations, such as ours, cannot operate. We urge you, if you have the time and enjoy driving and meeting new people, to consider joining our ranks. Please contact either our Chairman Colin Staker on 07497 435808 / 01594 845777 or me at rsc.bvcs@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
