🎉 MAMMOGRAM NEWS 🎉
Earlier this month I had my first routine mammogram since breast cancer treatment/mastectomy last Summer. On 16th of this month (May), a year to the day when I had an emergency docs appt to be told there were definitely 3 lumps and I would be referred to the breast clinic, I got on a plane to Spain for a week's holiday with my hubby and pals (yes, I was running away). Oh and 16th May is also my birthday.
This morning (24th May), I opened the letter that had arrived while I was away and below is a photo of it (as well as a holibobs photo of me and hubby).
Hurrah! Yay! Amazin!!

Fri 8th May 2026.... My first mammogram since surgery. So just 1 b**b to squash! It all went fine, I'll get the results in 2-3 weeks time 😳 Hope it flies by. And a check in with breast care nurse Dave (he's brill, seen him before) for lymphoedema concerns. I have more skincare regimes to do (lymphatic massage and LOTS of moisturising) and a referral to the lymphoedema team to make sure I'm all good. Better stop cleaning I reckon! Love this graphic 😁

Lymphoedema.... Always a worry...

Having had an axillary clearance of (all) the lymph nodes in my right armpit, this is something that continues to concern me.

This video (15mins long but worth it) by a British retired breast surgeon who had breast cancer herself and the associated treatments is just brilliant.

* Body shape *
As Summer approaches and the layers reduce, my 'new' body shape becomes more apparent. How do I feel about that? I'm still not sure. Happily most of the day I have dog leads around my neck/covering my missing b**b as I walk dogs for a living. Not the most flattering shot, ignore the double chins!
And please CHECK YOUR B***S every 1st of the month 🙏

* 9 months today since surgery for full right mastectomy *
Wow, doesn't time fly when you're having fun 😁. But seriously, how am I?
I have some new sensations in my right arm but not necessarily good ones... I get a tightness/pulling/soreness in my forearm now when I do my daily exercises. That's a new one.
Still constantly on the look out for the comfiest possible cropped tops as everything is still just not right/uncomfortable... Trialling some bamboo ones right now.
Waiting on the appointment for my annual mammogram - next month (a year since biopsies).
But I'm ALIVE! And loving being back walking dogs still.
Mental health - tip top 😁❤️🙏
You can't beat walking dogs in the forest to sort that 👍🌳🌲🐾

* Health update *
Yesterday 31st March I had a follow up phone call with a breast care nurse from Thirlstaine Breast Clinic. It was an incredibly reassuring call. She answered the few questions I had and told me everything I am doing will lead to a full recovery. Be patient Rachel, time is a true healer 😁
(And check your b**bs as it's the 1st of the month!)

Couch to 5k update....
I'll still be doing the Race for Life, don't worry. Just at a slower pace 😁

So 8 months and 4 days ago, I underwent surgery to remove Bob (my right breast) who was found to contain 4 tumours and also my lymph nodes. Today I started the Couch to 5k challenge in preparation for the 5k Race for Life at the end of May. My amazing husband has agreed to train with me. I can think of worse places to train! Love where I live in the Forest of Dean ❤️

Self love and self care
It's all about that at the moment. Especially as I have quite a heavy puppy to carry about!
In the last month I have been to my first Restorative Yoga session at Viney Hall Physio, Pilates & Other Therapies which was absolutely amazing/relaxing, had both a pilates and a Stretch/Release/Relax class at the same amazing venue, a second Acu massage session with Che Young Wellness and then the BEST reflexology session with the lovely Laura Weller Holistic Therapies. The self love and care is definitely working 😁❤️
