Chair yoga can mean sitting on a chair and practicing yoga but it can (if right for you) mean using a chair to explore poses you might not otherwise feel safe to try.

This tiny group of gentle souls walked, sometimes barefoot, often single file, through harsh weather, in a country of 349 million. A country where anger, division, brashness, hurt and fear seems to be growing. These Buddist Monks walked 3200 Miles from Texas Fort Worth to Washington DC - quietly, not looking for glory - simply showing there is another way. Peace, compassion, kindness and humility. Throughout the 108 days, more and more people took notice, support swelled - interest, intrigue, mind shifts, support, community, coming together, hope.

There has been hardly any news sharing, yet the media channels continued to share the grim stuff. There are good and positive things happening in the world - this is an example.
I have followed some of this journey, emotionally affected and humbled at the peaceful, gentle, conduct.

This gently shows the potential power of peace. Step by step choosing peace, sharing peace, spreading peace.

Fab group of Chair Yogis in class today. Lots of chat about poorly knees and knee replacements. What a lot of different experiences there were. Many similar experiences too.

Despite challenges with knees and other bits of body not working optimally, every single person joined in two versions of a sun salutation!

Improving or maintaining physical and mental strength, mobility and wellness is our aim.

Have you found yourself struggling to stand from your chair without using your hands to push yourself up? All of those attending our chair yoga classes have regained the balance, strength and stability to move between sitting and stand repeatedly.

Chair pose helps build strength we use variations of this pose in class. There is a variation to suit all bodies.

Warrior II pose using a chair as a prop and support feels so powerful but we can also create this pose sitting on the chair.
This pose helps us feel grounded and strong whilst we notice our breath, what is happening in our body. We also use it to work in focus and stamina.

It’s always lovely to receive messages like this. A person who had been coming to chair yoga had needed to take a few weeks off. She was messaging about returning to class.

“Yoga really helps with my back such a lot friends have noticed my walking is better. I recently walked the dogs for nearly an hour with stops I was so thrilled. I did not fully realise how beneficial the yoga was but I do need it.”

“I love the chair yoga classes and really look forward to them as I feel so relaxed afterwards.”

We start our chair yoga classes with a gentle settling, mindful body scan and warmup before enjoying our posture and mobility work. We then end the session with a breath-led relaxation.

Yoga is known to improve physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Chair Yoga classes are seated and standing sessions which have all the benefits of a traditional yoga class but the postures, stretches and joint care exercises are practised either standing or sitting on chairs, meaning those who struggle to get down and then up from the floor can more easily easily experience the benefits of yoga.
A chair yoga class is great way to reduce stress and exercise the brain while maintaining or improving muscle strength and suppleness.
As well as reducing stress, chair yoga can support the soothing of aches and pains and improvement in posture by strengthening and freeing our joints areas and tight muscles, this class will suit those who aren’t as fit as they might wish they were. The class includes gentle breathwork and relaxation. We know all bodies have their own history and therefore each person’s experience on the yoga chair and mat will be unique - each person working at a level to suit them.

Please note it is beneficial to practice yoga barefoot. It is recommended that you wear layers so that you can adjust for temperature preference through the class.

A happy chair yoga lover says “Chair yoga is improving my flexibility, muscle tone, balance and strength”.

If you think you might benefit from yoga but are concerned about getting up and down from the floor easily, consider chair yoga. We do some yoga from sitting and also use the chair as a prop and for support when practicing balance and standing poses.

Yoga is known to improve physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
