Did you know that it is generally believed that the first acupuncture needles were made of stone and have been found in ancient tombs in Inner Mongolia dating from 2,500 BCE? Bronze needles became popular around 3,000 years ago during the Chang dynasty. Today needles are made of stainless steel and are produced and packaged under sterile conditions.
Writings on acupuncture also date back thousands of years. Huang Di Nei Jing – The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Chinese Medicine - written more than 2,000 years ago still forms the basis of Chinese Medicine today.
Acupuncture has developed and grown in its use across the world over the centuries. It used by practitioners for well-being and to alleviate symptoms of many conditions such as menopause, headaches and migraines. Specialist forms of acupuncture have been developed for specific circumstances - such as ear acupuncture which is used worldwide for detoxification programmes and the treatment of PTSD. There is a developing body of research trials and data demonstrating the efficacy of acupuncture compared to some western medical interventions.
