Bakasana ~ Crow Pose
This week in our FIRE element Vinyasa practice we are working into Bakasana.
One of my favourite poses but often one that people struggle with. So here’s a little breakdown….
1. Spread through the fingers and really ground into the hands (keep them flat on the mat).
2. Bend your arms a little making a ledge with your triceps (make sure your elbows don’t go too wide keep them shoulder width).
3. Engage the core and really lift through Uddiyana Bandha (abdominal lock) and Mula Bandha (pelvic floor).
4. Tuck your knees right up near your armpits so the rest on the upper part of your triceps.
5. Lift your hips high and lift your feet towards your hips.
6. Gaze is straight forwards.
7. Remember to breathe!
Bakasana offers such a huge range of benefits…
Physically it strengthens the arms, wrists, shoulders, and core muscles, improves balance and coordination, builds focus and concentration, stretches the groin and opens the upper back
Mentally it boosts confidence and trust, reduces stress and anxiety and enhances body awareness.
Persevere! It does require some upper body strength but a lot of it is technique! There are also modifications (as with all poses). Try practicing with just lifting one foot at a time or just coming up onto your toes!
Have a blanket or cushion in front of you if you are nervous of face planting! 🙌
