RSV & Whooping Cough Vaccines

🤒 Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) can cause:

💉 Whooping cough (pertussis) is a highly contagious bacterial infection.

💫 It’s Fridayyy 💫

Our little girl Matilda Bea was born on 9th June 2025 via c section at Macclesfield.

We are so thankful to the team that helped deliver Matilda. The Consultants, Anaesthetist and the whole team in the theatre were absolutely amazing at keeping everything calm when things weren’t going as planned.

I ended up losing a lot of blood and needed transfusions etc but I can honestly say I felt so safe it their hands. I will be forever grateful for how they handled the situation. They came to visit me numerous times to make sure I was ok and understood what had happened.
Gemma our midwife was unbelievable, we cannot thank her enough! I was so scared about having a c section and she made me feel at ease the minute I met her. She cared for us and was so reassuring throughout. She was everything and more that you would hope to have in a midwife and I’m so thankful she was there for me and my husband during the surgery and after.

Thanks Gemma. We will never forget you 🩷

Congratulations
Welcome baby Matilda Bea 🌷

🌟 Meet the Macclesfield Maternity Team 🌟

Introducing the amazing Cheryl, one of our experienced Labour Ward Coordinators and Fetal Surveillance Midwife here at Macclesfield 👶❤️

Cheryl has been a midwife for an incredible 23 years, and aside from a brief break when the unit temporarily closed, she has spent her entire career caring for families right here at Macclesfield Maternity.

“The absolute best part of my job? It’s the sheer fascination that a woman can grow and birth a baby. Every single bump still blows my mind, there’s a tiny human in there! Just… wow.”

Cheryl plays a vital role in coordinating labour ward activity and overseeing fetal wellbeing, helping to keep both mums and babies safe during one of life’s most powerful moments.

And if she hadn’t become a midwife?

🐾 “I’d have definitely been a vet. I love the calmness animals bring, there’s something so grounding about being around them.”

Thank you, Cheryl, for your years of service, passion, and dedication to the women and babies of East Cheshire 💛

🌟 Meet the Macclesfield Maternity Team 🌟

Say hello to Jodie, one of our brilliant Teams Midwives here at Macclesfield 👋💛

Jodie has been a midwife for nearly four years and joined the Macc family in October 2023. Since then, she’s become an integral part of the team, known for her calm support, clinical skills, and great sense of humour!

“Being part of the Macc team offers the perfect balance of support, teamwork, and plenty of laughter along the way.”

As a Teams Midwife, Jodie cares for families from that very first booking appointment, through labour and birth, and into those precious early days at home with baby 👶🏼

“The best thing about being a midwife is seeing just how strong women can be especially when they feel supported, relaxed and truly listened to.”

And if she wasn’t a midwife?

☕🌊 “I’d love to own a little coffee shop by the sea, something cosy, calm and full of conversation!”

Thank you, Jodie, for being a part of so many families’ stories and for the compassion and dedication you bring to our team.

Having the RSV vaccine from 28 weeks of pregnancy passes protection to your baby and significantly reduces their risk of getting a lung infection during the first six months of their life.

Speak to your midwife about the vaccine.

Feeling your baby move is a sign that they are well. Report any change in your baby's regular pattern of movement to your midwife or maternity unit immediately. This includes strength of movement as well as frequency.

There is no set number of normal movements you need to feel. Get to know what's normal for your baby and report any change

If you think your baby’s movements have slowed down, stopped or changed in any way call your maternity unit or midwife immediately. The maternity unit is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Even at night, weekends and holidays. Don't put off calling until the next day or wait until your next scheduled appointment.

What if my baby’s movements are reduced again? You should contact your maternity unit again, however many times it happens. Even if everything was normal last time, don't hesitate to contact your midwife or maternity unit for advice.

A reduction or change in a baby’s movements can be an important warning sign that a baby is unwell. Around half of women who had a stillbirth noticed their baby’s movements had slowed down or stopped.

It's NOT true that babies move less towards the end of pregnancy. You should continue to feel your baby move right up to the time you go into labour and whilst you are in labour too.

Should I prompt my baby to move? No. As it can cause a delay in getting medical advice, do not use ice, fizzy drinks etc to make your baby move.

If, after your check up, you are still not happy with your baby’s movements, you must contact either your maternity unit or midwife straight away, even if everything was normal last time. NEVER HESITATE to contact your maternity unit or midwife for advice, no matter how many times this happens.

Do not use hand-held monitors, Dopplers or phone apps to check your baby’s health. Even if you hear a heartbeat, this does not mean your baby is well.
