Sheila Williams Baby Massage

Sheila Williams Baby Massage I trained to be a certified Infant Massage Instructor towards the end of my NHS career working with children and families. Hello my name is Sheila.

I can offer small group or individualised baby massage classes. Welcome to my Sheila Williams Baby Massage page. Having spent many years working with children and families as a health visitor and specialist nurse for cared for children I feel passionately about the value of touch, early communication and emotional connection to the healthy development of babies and children. As a Mum of three adult children and more recently a Grandma I recognise that we all want to do our best to meet the needs of our babies and children. We learn from our babies and children along the way. This has led me to train with the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) and become a Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI). Training with IAIM was a great experience, it has helped me to learn much more about the benefits of touch and baby massage. IAIM's purpose is to promote nurturing touch and communication through training, education and research so that parents, caregivers and children are loved, valued and respected throughout the world community. This means that I can now offer small friendly supportive group classes consisting of 5 weekly sessions using the IAIM programme with up to eight parents and their pre-crawling babies in community venues. Massage oil, handouts and refreshments are provided. Individual sessions or very small groups (2-3) can be arranged in your own home. Please contact me to discuss. In addition I have a special interest in adoptive babies and children as well as children with special needs. If you have any special requirements please ask. Thank you for reading.

October 10 marks World Mental Health Day, an important occasion to reflect on family well-being. The emotional health of parents is closely linked to that of their children: a calm, supported, and listened-to parent can transmit confidence and serenity to their little one.
Infant massage, as promoted by IAIM, offers a valuable tool to support this process. Through touch and presence, parents find dedicated time to connect with their child, slow down, and nurture a deep relational bond.
In many countries, our courses provide safe spaces for listening, sharing, and mutual support, where mental health is integral to overall well-being. On this day, we celebrate the fact that every act of care and love contributes to building stronger, more balanced families.

Your baby may not have the words yet, but they understand the language of your touch. Every gentle stroke, every moment of closeness during infant massage tells them: you are safe, you are loved, you belong.

Nurturing touch does more than soothe—science shows it helps regulate your baby’s nervous system, supports better sleep, reduces fussiness, and strengthens your bond. But beyond the research, it’s the stillness, the eye contact, the warmth of your hands that create a memory of love they’ll carry with them for life.

These simple rituals remind us that parenting isn’t about doing it all perfectly—it’s about showing up in small, intentional ways that matter deeply.

Parents, what’s one moment of touch that your baby seems to love the most—massage, snuggles, or skin-to-skin? Share below—you never know who your story might encourage.

Becoming a parent brings joy, but also doubts and insecurities. Every mother and father asks themselves: “Am I doing enough? Am I doing it right?” Infant massage offers a concrete answer to these questions, as it allows parents to experience moments of genuine connection where they learn to listen to and recognize their baby’s cues.

In IAIM classes, parents do not receive a “manual of instructions,” but tools to observe, respect, and respond to their child’s unique needs. Through practice, they discover that their hands can comfort, their voice can soothe, and their presence has an irreplaceable value.

These experiences nurture a growing sense of trust and competence. It is not about striving for perfection, but about feeling capable of accompanying their child in the journey of growth, day by day.

Infant massage, therefore, is not only a benefit for babies, but also for parents—who find strength and confidence in the most important role of all: being a loving and present guide.

Infant massage isn’t just about calming your baby—it’s a whole conversation without words. Every gentle stroke is like saying “I love you. I see you. You are safe in my arms.”

These moments of touch build trust, strengthen your bond, and nurture peace—for both you and your baby. Massage becomes more than routine—it’s a language of love that your little one will carry in their heart.

Think of it as a chance to slow down, breathe together, and connect deeply.

Parents, how do you create wordless moments of connection with your baby?

Share your favorite rituals—your story might be the encouragement another parent needs today.

Did you know that infant massage not only promotes the baby’s physical well-being but also deeply strengthens bonding, the emotional and relational connection between parent and child?
During massage, the body produces oxytocin, often called the “love hormone,” which plays a key role in creating feelings of trust, safety, and calm. This hormone helps establish a stable and reassuring relationship.
But bonding is built not only through touch: eye contact, the rhythm of movements, the voice speaking or singing, and shared breathing create a true “dance” of signals and responses that helps the baby feel seen, recognized, and deeply loved.
This bond, formed in the first months of life, is essential for the baby’s emotional, cognitive, and social growth—it lays the foundation for their ability to relate to others and feel secure in the world.
In mindful massage, every gesture becomes much more than a simple movement: it is an act of presence, care, and deep nourishment.
In our IAIM course, you will have the opportunity to experience this firsthand, learning to read your baby’s signals and respond with gentleness and skill.
