🎗️ Know the Signs & Symptoms of Breast Cancer

Breast cancer can affect anyone with breast/chest tissue — regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.

🔍 Check for:
• A new lump or thickening in the breast, chest, or armpit
• Change in size or shape
• Skin dimpling, puckering, or redness
• Ni**le inversion or change in position
• Ni**le discharge (especially blood)
• Persistent pain in one area
• Rash or crusting around the ni**le

💡 Most lumps aren’t cancer — but always get new changes checked by your GP.

Early detection saves lives.

🌈 The Importance of Self-Examination in the LGBTQIA+ Community

Cancer risk is about body parts and hormones — not sexual orientation or gender identity.

If you have breast or chest tissue, regular self-checks are important — whether you’re le***an, gay, bi, trans, non-binary, intersex, or cisgender.

👋 Check regularly for:
• New lumps or swelling
• Skin dimpling or texture changes
• Ni**le changes or discharge
• Persistent pain in one area

🏳️‍⚧️ Hormone therapy can change breast tissue and risk over time.
🏳️ Chest surgery reduces risk but doesn’t remove it completely.

💡 Don’t wait for a screening invite. If something feels different, speak to your GP.

Knowing your body is empowerment. Early detection saves lives.

🏳️‍⚧️ Does gender transition affect breast cancer risk?

Yes — but it depends on hormones and breast tissue, not just gender identity.

Trans women (on oestrogen):
Risk increases compared to cis men.
Still lower than cis women.
Risk rises with long-term hormone use.

Trans men:
Testosterone doesn’t clearly increase risk.
If breast tissue remains, risk is similar to cis women.
After top surgery, risk is much lower (but not zero).

💡 Key point: Breast cancer risk is linked to hormone exposure and breast tissue — screening decisions should be based on anatomy and individual risk.
