Emily Bartlett Meditation and Creativity

Emily Bartlett Meditation and Creativity Accredited meditation teacher, certified mindfulness teacher, hand-knitwear designer, conscious creative, passionate hand knitter.

I am a registered and accredited Meditation Teacher with The British School of Meditation. I am also a Certified Mindfulness Teacher, having completed Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach's in-depth, 2-year, Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Programme. My offerings are an invitation to explore time-honoured and scientifically proven tools to help calm a busy mind, ease stress and tension, and cultivate greater care and wellbeing for yourself, others, and the planet. As my personal practice has developed over the last 11 years, it has grown within the context of working in busy roles in the cultural and creative spheres. Through my offerings I share tools and techniques that I know to be of great benefit in enabling us to better embrace the present moment and develop more creative and clear mindsets, even in the middle of pressures or difficulties. Knitting has always formed an integral part of my life and I also design and make hand knitted garments inspired by the colours and textures found in the natural landscape of the Dyfi Valley where I am based. I work with natural fibres and yarn brands that work towards high standards in animal welfare, organic farming and production processes and with good social and economic working standards for farmers. Knitting and creativity is an essential element of my mindfulness practice and my approach to living a compassionate, mindful life.

Subtly lengthening days. ๐ŸŒค๏ธ Tiny buds on the branches. ๐ŸŒฑ The flowering of daffodils, celandine, hawthorn, and dandelions. ๐ŸŒผ

If we pause to look, we can see the energy of spring gathering pace all around us now. ๐Ÿ’›

And today we have welcomed in the Spring Equinox โ€“ this beautiful point in the year when the Earth pauses in a moment of balance, and day and night sit in near-perfect equilibrium. ๐ŸŒฟ

For me, this archetypal season of renewal always feels like a wonderful time to breathe new life into my mindfulness practice. And I love how the equinox mirrors the internal balance that we can cultivate when we rest in the present moment, letting life be just as it is.

This โ€˜being withโ€™ doesnโ€™t always mean that we like how things are. It doesnโ€™t mean that we pretend things arenโ€™t difficult when they are, or that we stop responding to injustices, or trying to change the things we want to change.

It simply means that right now, for these moments, we are seeking a way to steady ourselves, and to come back to our centre, so that we can find a more balanced way forward in lifeโ€™s midst. ๐ŸŒฟ

In the Buddhist tradition this is called equanimity โ€“ a state of evenness of body, heart, and mind. ๐Ÿง˜

And Iโ€™m so grateful to have it as a refuge to keep coming back to, especially as we continue to live through these deeply disturbing times. โš–๏ธ

However you have been spending your Spring Equinox today, I hope that you have found ways to balance and steady yourself, today and all days. ๐ŸŒฟ

I love these in-between days, this time of transition โ€“ no longer quite winter, but not yet fully feeling like spring.

And itโ€™s rained so much so far this year! But over the last few days the sun has come out, and Iโ€™ve been feeling incredibly grateful for the blue sky and seeing the first daffodils and primroses. โ›…๏ธ ๐ŸŒผ ๐ŸŒฟ

Intentionally nurturing gratitude is part of the beautiful collection of mindful heart practices that can help us to open our hearts, bring us into a space of wellbeing, and enhance our sense of connection and care to others and the world around us. ๐Ÿ’›

And science shows us that practicing gratitude, even for things that may seem small and insignificant, helps the brain to release feel good chemicals like dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin. When practiced over time, it can help to strengthen areas of the brain responsible for empathy, self-reflection, and emotional regulation, and calm areas of brain responsible for stress, rumination and worry. ๐Ÿงก

In these unsettled times, consciously remembering to honour all of the little things around me that I am grateful for, is such a vital part of my mindfulness practice. And I'm reminded of the words of Jack Kornfield - 'Even amid difficulties, suffering and destruction, still flowers bloom'. ๐ŸŒผ

So why not ask yourself what you feel grateful for today?

I always find that thereโ€™s a certain kind of quiet that lives within the walls of Wenlock Wellness Space ๐ŸŒฟ

For me, itโ€™s a place that always feels nourishing, a space where you can let your shoulders drop and your breath settle. Iโ€™m so looking forward to being back this weekend to guide the first of my spring mindfulness meditation sessions there.

The season of in-between ๐ŸŒฑ

The beginning of February marks Imbolc - the beginning of spring in the Gaelic calendar. We are at the midway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox, a bridge between winterโ€™s stillness and springโ€™s awakening.

It is a beautiful, threshold time of being in-between.

While the weather may still feel cold and damp, the promise of renewal is here if we take a moment to pause and look: ๐ŸŒฑ In the first snowdrops and crocuses. โ˜€๏ธ In the subtly lengthening days. ๐ŸŒณ In the tiny green buds appearing on the branches.

Natureโ€™s promise of hope feels especially vital this year, as events in the world continue to feel so turbulent and unsettled.

And I can feel my own energy shifting - moving from the need for winter rest, toward a quiet, growing sense of aliveness.

So, I am pausing. I am hoping. And I am reflecting on the seeds I wish to plant, and the ways of being I want to bring into the world, in the coming seasons.

Can you feel the shift and how have you been marking Imbolc?

Wishing you a gradual, gentle, hope-filled transition into spring. ๐Ÿ™

Welcoming in a beautiful Autumn Equinox ๐Ÿ pausing to reflect and honour this energy today in perfect autumnal sunshine.

I love how this turning point in the seasons can gently hold me, as I acknowledge where there is abundance in my life, as well as the lessons of past seasons.

Just as the trees begin to shed their leaves, this time of transition can help us to tenderly acknowledge what is shifting in our lives, and what we might be ready to let go of.

And just as trees begin to draw energy down to their roots for the winter months, we can use this powerful time to ground ourselves, connect to the earth, and set intentions to nurture steadiness and balance.

How are you honouring this autumn equinox and season?
