January has been full of lovely, calming sessions and empowering moments. 🙏💫 Love this work!
The psoas, a deep muscle associated with the Kidney meridian and often known as the “muscle of the soul”, has been making itself known in The Kinesiology Room this month.
From a TCM perspective, it’s no surprise to see this muscle showing imbalance during winter, a season linked with Kidney energy, our deep reserves and capacity to cope, because we tend to remain overactive during a time for rest and restoration.
😣 The psoas is closely tied to the stress response. It’s often influenced by anxiety, prolonged stress, and adrenal load, and when imbalanced, functionally we may see things like magnesium, sodium, and essential fatty acids show in muscle testing.
💪🏻 🦴 Structurally, the psoas connects the spine to the legs. When our fight-or-flight response is activated, it can remain in a state of tension, impacting the lower back, hips, digestion, and diaphragm.
💕Emotionally, fear and unresolved stress patterns are often involved and there can be deeper, long-held limiting beliefs, inner child or even ancestral themes that the body asks us to work on.
💦Over the past few weeks, psoas and other muscles on the Kidney meridian have been showing imbalances in different ways for different people. Digestive symptoms, ear or eye issues, headaches, skin flare-ups, immune system issues, anxiety, fears, burnout, fluid retention around ankles and neck or back discomfort. Different expressions from the body, but all asking for support for the same system.
🌿 There’s been plenty of emotional release work involving this muscle through January, and the timing is significant. 💫The Kidney meridian is linked with fulfilling potential and transforming fear into wisdom, which feels especially relevant in the world we’re living in right now. Many people are sensing that change and clearing is required, both personally and collectively, in order to move forward 🐎 in 2026.
