Nelumbo Yoga was founded by Joelle Pettitt in 2011 and provides both Ashtanga Yoga, Dynamic Power Vinyasa, Restorative, Pre and Postnatal Yoga classes as well as private one-to-one yoga tuition in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & London. Yoga classes involve a sequence of postures, focusing on linking breath with movement in a dynamic flow to leave you feeling energised, invigorated and relaxed. My be

Join me for this 2-hour workshop focused on hip-openers and discover the transformative benefits of poses that increase the range of motion and strength in the hips.

Many of us experience โ€œtightnessโ€ in our hips as a result of extended periods sitting at a desk or through repetitive movements such a running and cycling. We know that stress can also lead to a griping of the muscles around the pelvis and hips.

By increasing the range of movement and strength in your hips you can enjoy:

โ€ข Increased mobility in your pelvis

I will be taking part in a virtual challenge between 15 May and 15 June 2025 to walk 107 km - the distance between the West Bank and Gaza in order to raise money for Medical Aid for Palestinians - MAP. MAP are UK based charity whose work supports the health and dignity of Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank & Lebanon.

Today (15th May) marks 77 years since the "Nakba" which means "Catastrophe". On this day we remember the over 750,000 of Palestinians who were violently forced from their homes - my grandparents included. Villages were destroyed and many people massacred. Palestinians have faced ethnic cleansing, discrimination & violence for decades. Those who were forced to leave have been denied the right to return home.

The Nakba is not a historical event - it is ongoing. Now more than ever Palestinians are still trying to survive violent occupation, displacement, bombings & starvation. Palestinians in Gaza are now starving due to a man-made famine. Since 2 March 2025 Israel has prevented the entry of all humanitarian supplies and commercial goods including food, water, medicine and fuel into the occupied Gaza Strip. Those who have survived the last 19 months of airstrikes and mass killings now face a slow death by starvation.

Backbends strengthen the spine and energise your body and mind. However, they can also be intimidating and challenging for many students. When practiced mindfully with correct technique they can help to relieve back pain and help build strong legs.

The workshop will include a flowing sequence designed to fully prepare your body for back bends. We will cover different backbends: teaching you mental and physical techniques to help you embrace the challenge of these postures & to enjoy the benefits they bring your body & mind.

Within the flow we will be bringing awareness and openness to the shoulders, hips fronts of the thighs. When bending backwards, we need space in these areas of the body to allow for deeper backbends.

We will balance the opening of backbends with core stability to leave you feeling great! It will be great to see you there!
