A frequent question asked by customers: "what is the purpose of an antioxidant?".
This is a very common question since the latest trend in skincare is an "antioxidant in the morning, anti-ageing in the evening" routine.
I decided to answer this question visually with an apple π.
I cut this apple in half last night before I went to bed, applied mushroom moisturiser to one side of the apple and left the other side moisturiser free.
As you can see in the picture, the side without moisturiser has become dry, wrinkly and discoloured and the side with the moisturiser is still smooth, hydrated and close to it's original colour.
This is thanks to the powerful antioxidants in the moisturiser such as Chaga and Reishi. These antioxidants help to preserve the condition of the skin by protecting it from free radicals in the environment that cause ageing and discolouration.
You can see there is extra skin around the edge of the side without moisturiser, this is where the flesh of the apple has sunken in due to lack of hydration creating space for loose skin and wrinkles to form. The side with the moisturiser does not have loose skin thanks to the high content of Tremella retaining hydration and plumpness in the area, preventing loose skin and wrinkles from forming.
Thankfully human skin doesn't age as fast as apples π! But if we were to apply antioxidant to one half of our face only every day for several years, that is when you would be likely to notice a difference.
I often get asked why Yugen Healing doesn't have an "antioxidant in the day, anti-ageing at night" routine. The answer to that is we need antioxidants on our skin both day and night, as you can tell by the apple that I left out during the night time. It also helps to have anti-ageing ingredients both day and night as well.
We want our customers to get the most out of their money, so instead of creating two separate ranges that you need to use at different times, you can use the same range twice!
If you own the Yugen Healing serum or moisturiser you can try this experiment at home.
