It’s World Sleep Day ✨🌛
This year’s theme being ‘Regular Sleep, Healthy Future’.

Maintaining a regular pattern of sleeping and waking times optimises our sleep. Creating a simple pre-sleep routine can help us to develop this habit and prepare for a restful night of sleep. This routine could include some relaxing yoga poses to help you to unwind and calm the nervous system. ✨

A reclined spinal twist is a soothing pose that unravels unnecessary tension. Close the eyes, pause and tune into your breathing. Feel how the ribcage gently expands as you breathe in and softens as you breathe out... 🌛😴

Still Water Reflecting Clearly ✨

WATER has been a theme in our yoga classes recently. Associated with winter in traditional chinese medicine, water can take various forms. Moving fluidly and continuously there is a powerfulness to it yet also a softness and smoothness.

On a calm day like today as we say farewell to February, water sits perfectly still... reflecting its surroundings with clarity and bringing a sense of tranquility ✨

🌲Winter Solstice🌲

The holiday season feels very different this year and not all that we had hoped for. This time of year does however offer us an opportunity to slow down, reflect and rest.

The Winter Solstice occurs today, the time of year where days are at their shortest and hours of darkness peak. It is also a celebration of the return of light into our lives, as days slowly start getting longer again. This phase of increased darkness invites us to burrow down and recharge our batteries so that we are ready to embrace the new year and look forward to brighter days ahead.

We have a Winter Solstice themed Yoga Nidra Meditation session this Monday December 21st at 6pm. This practice of deep rest and relaxation promotes a sense of inner well-being and resilience, enabling us to better face whatever comes our way in life.🌛🌞

🍂When confronted with challenging situations we can take some consolation in the temporary nature of the discomfort we experience as it will no doubt change in its quality over time. 🍂

Revolved triangle pose can be an awkward twisting pose for many of us that requires skill, perseverance and focus.

The variation pictured can make it more accessible without losing its impact. Reaching down to a block placed inside the front foot allows for a broader base to the pose and avoids any tendency to over-reach, resulting in a lighter longer feel in the torso.

Aim to maintain a steady breath despite the compressive feel at your centre.

Then linger in the spacious ease of the aftermath. 😌

🍂Impermanence 🍂

Treading through fallen leaves... 🍁 This season with its vibrant hues and crisp days is a reminder of the impermanent nature of all things. We may be yearning for a return to the normality we felt we had before this year. Taking comfort in things staying the same, as it shields us from the uncertainty of the unknown. But this isn't the nature of the world. Accepting the notion of impermanence can encourage us to savour small moments of joy, however fleeting and embrace the possibilities that arise within whatever is unfolding in front of us. 🍁

🌫 The s p a c e s between 🌫

✨Slow down and experience the spaces between breaths to find calmness and clarity.🌤

✨Become aware of the natural pauses between each breath.

✨Not holding the breath but allowing a moment to occur at the top of your inhalation and before the breath releases.

✨Similarly noticing that brief gap in time at the end of the out breath, before taking a new breath in.

✨There is no hurry for the next breath. It happens when it is ready.✨🐢
