Today we started our six session programme at working in partnership with programme. Today was about getting to know the skills and knowledge the young people have and determining what they want to learn over the coming weeks. Today start we discussed the different types of angling and what you need to go fishing. Looking forward to next week when we introduce more practical activities to the group

In April 2025 we put Shay up for a Move With Us award and told him about the Move With Us Ambassador programme. We were delighted that he was named Move Maker for April and even more pleased to hear that he has been shortlisted for the annual Champion award. These hands-on sessions give them a deeper insight into fishing, helping them understand how fish feed and think like true anglers.

Just imagine the excitement when they catch a carp on bait they’ve prepared themselves!

🎉 Rose Water Place Supports Local Fishing Charity 🎉

Rose Water Place Care Home in recently presented Cast A Thought charity with a cheque for £1,260 in support of their Fish and Chat project, which promotes mental health and wellbeing through the therapeutic benefits of angling.

Cast A Thought CIC empowers children, young people and adults through accessible and inclusive fishing activities that encourage mental wellness and connection with nature.

Colleagues and residents welcomed Dave and Helen from Cast A Thought to a small gathering at the home to celebrate and hand over the cheque, awarded on behalf of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

Hadrian Rodriguez, General Manager at Rose Water Place, shared: “We are always keen to show as much support as we can to local charities and Cast A Thought ensures that every cast of the line brings hope, healing and togetherness in the community.”

Day 2 Catch and Connect at . Today we welcomed Sian, Mental Health Development Officer at Active Essex to meet our young people and learn more about the programme. As this was Sian's first visit to Cast A Thought the first job was to get her fishing. Thank you to our young leader, Shay, for showing her the ropes.

With PSCO Greaves on leave, we were delighted to welcome back PC Groves to Fish Fest tonight 🎣

While our sessions are all about helping young people develop their fishing skills — tonight's plan being making rigs and learning CPR — conversations often flow in different directions.

This evening, the group discussed a range of police matters: from investigations and charges to verdicts and what really happens in court. These honest, open chats are what it’s all about — helping to break down barriers between young people and the police.

PC Groves will be out with us next weekend for the main event and putting into practice the fishing skills that she has been learning over the two years she has supported the programme.

Thank you to for your continued support with both our adult and young people's sessions. Mousehole is an ideal location to introduce the groups to fishing and offer a choice of three lakes, two specimen and one match along with a great cafe offering meals and refreshments throughout the day.

Rain or shine, our Fish & Chat group keeps casting!

Despite the weather, our group enjoyed a fantastic day at — with an impressive estimated 60lb of silvers caught.

There were smiles all round and plenty of great conversation, proving that connection and community spirit shine through whatever the weather.
