Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital Trust in the south east of England. The Trust was legally established on 14 February 2000 and provides a full range of general hospital services, and some areas of specialist complex care to around 560,000 people living in the south of West Kent and the north of East Sussex. The Trustโ€™s core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs, and it operates from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. The latter is a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) hospital and provides wholly single bedded en-suite accommodation for in-patients. The Trust employs a team of over 5000 full and part-time staff. In addition, the Trust provides specialist cancer services to around 1.8 million people across Kent, Hastings and Rother, via the Kent Oncology Centre, which is sited at Maidstone Hospital, and at Kent and Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury. The Trust also provides outpatient clinics across a wide range of locations in Kent and East Sussex. New fluoroscopy equipment is being delivered to Tunbridge Wells Hospital this evening, Wednesday 25 March, from 7pm.

๐Ÿฉป Fluoroscopy uses x-rays to produce real time images, like a video, of the inside of the body.

It lets us see what happens when a patient swallows, and can help guide radiologists during procedures.

The new equipment will be moved into the building through the Women's and Children's entrance and disruption will be kept to a minimum.

๐Ÿš‘ Ambulance access will be maintained at all times.

The bus stops will remain in use but access to the drop off area may be restricted for a short time as the new equipment is unloaded.

๐Ÿ  Support from the Maidstone Hospital League of Friends has transformed Maidstone Hospitalโ€™s Short Stay Surgery Unit to make it less daunting for our youngest patients.

๐Ÿชผ A marine-themed wall now brightens up the recovery bay used by young patients after surgery, and decorated ceilings in two anaesthetic rooms have created a calm environment for children before they go in to theatre.

๐Ÿฌ The creative initiative was led by Lead Theatre Practitioner, Marie Mainoo-Mlileomor and families are already describing the space as far more welcoming, with the bright, child-friendly images easing their anxiety and their children's worries around surgery.

๐Ÿณ One parent commented: "It's clear a lot of thought has gone into making this space child-friendly, the artwork really helped us during a stressful day".

The Dementia and Delirium team visited our wards on World Delirium Day ( ) last week to raise awareness and give advice on caring for patients experiencing delirium.

Delirium is a state of intense mental confusion, often with underlying causes such as infection or dehydration.

It usually comes on suddenly and affects the way a person behaves and functions, which can be very distressing for the person experiencing it and for their loved ones.

Delirium is common in older people and is often experienced by people living with dementia.

World Delirium Day raises awareness of the condition and how best to care for someone experiencing delirium: ensuring their safety, speaking clearly and maintaining a calm environment.

๐Ÿ’ฌ "My nursing journey has always been driven by a passion to support patients through some of the most uncertain and life-changing moments of their lives."

It's Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Day, and a chance to celebrate everything the incredible cancer nursing workforce does for patients every day. ๐ŸŽ‰

Cancer clinical nurse specialists are qualified nurses, and support people from the point of cancer diagnosis and are involved in their care throughout their treatment.

๐Ÿซถ They deliver person-centred care and specialist support including information about their type of cancer, treatment options and possible side effects.

Our 75 cancer CNSs help patients and their families through their cancer journey, covering areas including haematology, palliative care, acute oncology, breast and urology.

โฑ๏ธ They are part of the Kent Oncology Centre team providing some of the fastest access to cancer care in the country, meeting all three national cancer standards and consistently achieving the 62-day cancer standard for more than six years.

Join us in celebrating our incredible cancer CNS team and thanking them for everything they do! ๐Ÿ‘
