May is Coeliac Disease Awareness Month 🌾

Coeliac disease is more than a dietary preference - it’s an autoimmune condition where gluten causes real harm to the body. Raising awareness helps improve understanding, encourages earlier diagnosis, and supports those living gluten-free every day.

Whether it’s learning the signs, checking labels, or supporting someone’s dietary needs, small actions can make a big difference.

🧼 World Hand Hygiene Day 🧼

This World Hand Hygiene Day, remember that something as simple as washing your hands can prevent the spread of infections and protect both you and those around you. Germs are easily passed through touch, but proper hand hygiene breaks that chain.
Wash your hands thoroughly - use soap, scrub for at least 20 seconds (don’t forget between your fingers, under your nails, and the backs of your hands), rinse well, and dry completely.
It’s a small habit that makes a big difference.

Please note all our surgeries will be closed from 1pm on Tuesday 12th May, and our acute walk-in clinic will also be closed for the whole day. This is due to the Oliver McGowen Mandatory Staff Training on Learning Disability and Autism.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death shone a light on the need for health and social care staff to have better training. The Health and Care Act 2022 introduced a statutory requirement that CQC-registered providers must ensure their staff receive learning disability and autism training appropriate to their role.

Oliver's Training also supports the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan ambition by upskilling the wider health and care workforce to provide appropriately adjusted care for people with a learning disability and autistic people to reduce health inequality.

Our service provider is aware and are working on resolving this issue as promptly as possible.

☑️ For checking and cancelling appointments you can use our automated service on option 3 of our phone menu.

☑️ For test results, referral progress or medication you can acess these on your NHS app.

🚨 MEASLES NEWS! 🚨

The UK has recently lost its “measles elimination status” due to falling vaccination rates and a rise in cases.

📉 Vaccination uptake is now below 95%, the level needed for herd immunity — meaning measles can spread more easily in our communities.

📊 Since January, there have already been 158 confirmed cases in the UK, with two-thirds in London. The risk locally is now higher than it has been in years.

👶 Based on 2024 data:

68% of cases are in children under 10

96.4% are unvaccinated

Measles spreads very easily and can lead to serious complications such as:
⚠️ Pneumonia
⚠️ Brain inflammation
⚠️ In rare cases, death

💉 The good news: Measles is preventable with a safe and effective vaccine.
