Guest Medical was the first company to produce a specialised biohazard spill kit for medical laboratories, followed by other designs more suited to phlebotomists and hospital ward use. We were also the first company to offer a chlorine based product with surfactant action (Chlor-Clean) to the NHS. Other notable ‘firsts’ developed by Guest Medical include a Cytotoxic Drugs Spill Kit, a Urine and Vomit Spills Kit and Aquasan, a non-toxic bacteriostatic additive for laboratory water baths and incubators.

Chlor-Clean Wipes: In response to considerable demand from our customers we have developed a Chlor-Clean wipe, details of which can be found on page 5 of our new product brochure. Chlor-Clean Wipes are a unique product which can be used for mopping up small blood spills (in compliance with DoH recommendations) as well as general environmental disinfection of commodes and other patient associated equipment.

Today is World Hepatitis Day 2022.
World Hepatitis Day is held every year on 28th July, the birthday of Dr Baruch Blumberg who discovered Hepatitis B virus in 1967.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is an enveloped virus that can cause chronic and life threatening liver infections, cirrhosis and liver cancer. HBV is highly infectious and can be spread through exposure to infected blood and body fluids.

WHO estimates that 296 million people were living with chronic hepatitis B infection in 2019, with approximately 1.5 million new infections identified each year.

Did you know…………?
• People newly infected with HBV show no signs or symptoms
of infection.
• HBV can survive outside the body, can be transmitted in the
absence of visible blood and can remain infectious on
environmental surfaces for a minimum of 7 days!
During this time the virus is still able to be transmitted and
cause infection in a new host.

That is why it is important for all spillages of blood or blood-stained body fluids to always be treated as infectious and disinfected appropriately.

Guest Medical Haz-Tab Tablets and Granules, Biohazard Wipes, as well as Biohazard Spills Kits and Packs provide you with the most effective means of disinfection of blood-borne viruses such as HBV. Biohazard Wipes are dual-purpose dry chlorine wipes impregnated with our Chlor-Clean formulation.
For Blood Spillages - Place dry directly onto the spill and the wipes will absorb the blood whilst disinfecting at 10,000 ppm available chlorine at the same time.
For General Environmental Cleaning and Disinfection - Moisten the dry wipe under the cold tap, squeeze out excess water and use to wipe over a surface just like you would with Chlor-Clean Solutions.

Our Story

Guest Medical, established in 1972, is a United Kingdom based manufacturer and supplier of hospital disinfection products. We specialise in the supply of specialist disinfectants that meet the specific needs and current challenges of modern health care facilities. Accredited to the International Quality Assurance Standard, BS:EN ISO 9001:2015, Guest Medical is a major supplier to the United Kingdom National Health Service as well as the private sector. We also have a thriving export market and are internationally recognised for our expertise in hospital disinfection.

Guest Medical was the first company to produce a specialised multi-use biohazard spill kit, single use biohazard spill-pak, urine and vomit spillage kits and paks, along with spillage kits for cytotoxic spills, chemical spills, and specific kits for mercury spills and sharps. As innovators in this market, we have had many of our products copied by others, so we must have got it right!

A world first, our new Biohazard Wipe-Pak, dispenses with the need to use messy granules and powders to disinfect blood and blood stained body fluid spillages. You can now simply use our dry chlorine based wipes to absorb and disinfect the spillage at a minimum 10,000ppm available chlorine to comply fully with Department of Health recommendations.

With the recent media coverage of the devastating effects of plastics on the worldwide environment, it is heart warming to know that our Biohazard Wipe-Pak dispenses with the need for plastic scoops and scrapers used to clear up the blood spillage after it has been disinfected using the chlorine granules, and also doing away with the plastic container that the chlorine granules are supplied in. We were also the first company to offer a chlorine based tablet product with cleaning action (Chlor-Clean) to the National Health Service, again copied by many others. Testing by an independent laboratory has shown that Chlor-Clean at 1,000ppm is effective against Candida auris after 5 minutes contact time using the EN16615 – 2015 Standard (chemical disinfectants and antiseptics - see below) with dirty conditions; testing reports available on request. If looking to use a similar product; suggest you check that they meet this Standard.

This European Standard applies to areas and situations where disinfection is medically indicated. Such indications occur in patient care, for example: in hospitals, in community medical facilities and in dental institutions; in clinics of schools, of kindergartens and of nursing homes and may occur in the workplace and in the home.

And..................................at last, the answer to many requests! For many years since the successful introduction of Chlor-Clean tablets, our customers have been asking for a Chlor-Clean wipe with all the advantages of the Chlor-Clean solution (using NaDCC) in a convenient wipe form. By incorporating new technology into an established formula we have developed a dry Chlor-Clean wipe that has additional benefits for the modern health care establishment. Dual Use Chlor-Clean wipes can be used both for blood & blood-stained body fluid spills as well as general environmental disinfection. Placing the wipe directly onto a spill (up to 30ml) will both absorb the moisture and disinfect with 10,000 ppm strength available chlorine. This makes Chlor-Clean wipes the first wipe product to comply with DoH guidance for dealing with blood and blood-stained body fluid spills and will be of particular help to busy ward staff for dealing with small spills and minor accidents. For general environmental disinfection, especially commodes and other items of patient associated equipment, the wipe can be wetted, the excess moisture squeezed out and then used as a normal Chlor-Clean solution to clean and disinfect surfaces. Our Chlor-Clean Wipes also meet the EN16615 - 2015 Standard.
