My first lesson on the Mentorship to Mastery is all about The Fool's Journey. Here is my take on the journey.
The Fool’s journey is based on the journey of life. It begins at 0, where we hold our intuition and potential, untouched and unbiased by outside influences. This is our starting point, our pure energy, it represents a leap of faith. With no clear plan but a strong sense of possibility, the Fool steps into the unknown.
Taking a leap of faith into life brings us to The Magician. The leap has been made, and we have transformed from being full of energy into a person ready to learn. The Magician can see clearly the four suits that represent water, earth, air and fire. He knows he holds power but must learn to master the elements within it.
Next comes The High Priestess. She is our inner voice, our intuition, light and shadow. Following her is The Empress, who represents potential, love and creativity. She embodies all the energies of the Queens in the Minor Arcana. She is unconditional love and creative potential.
The Emperor embodies all the Kings of the Minor Arcana. He brings rules and boundaries to balance the Empress’s emotional energy. The Hierophant follows, representing the structure and discipline required to access knowledge. He also brings the consequences of failing to conform to those teachings.
The Lovers represent choice, the ability to make the right decisions both morally and emotionally. At this stage, the Fool is older and wiser. The Chariot puts the Magician in control; although the road ahead may be confusing and full of options, the energy of movement pushes only forward.
Strength shows the Magician remaining calm and courageous, even in hostile environments, choosing the higher ground. The Hermit turns inward, reflecting alone on what has been learned and preparing for the challenges ahead.
The Wheel of Fortune reminds the Fool that life has its ups and downs, that sometimes it is a gamble, but wise choices can change outcomes. Justice follows the Wheel, showing that when the higher path and the right decisions are chosen, the Fool will see the results.
The Hanged Man represents calm, meditation and surrender. Even when both light and dark are present, he lets go of control and simply allows himself to be.
Death teaches the Fool that change is inevitable, that phases of life end, and that letting go is sometimes necessary. Temperance brings balance and harmony, showing that life is not black and white but often exists in shades of grey, on middle ground.
The Devil warns the Fool of desires and attachments that may have a negative effect, such as addiction or temptation. These may be alluring but come with a price. The Tower then shows upheaval, shock and sudden change. It reveals how fragile the foundations of life can be.
The Star shines as the light after the chaos of The Tower, guiding the way forward. The Moon follows, representing fear, doubt and inner darkness, while The Sun brings joy, warmth and happiness after overcoming those trials.
Wisdom comes when The Magician can look back over the entire journey, reflecting on what has been learned and integrating those lessons. This leads to The World, where everything comes together in success and fulfilment. The journey is complete, for now.
The Fool’s journey is a beautiful way to reflect on our own growth. I have loved looking at it.
Wherever you are on your path, you’re exactly where you need to be.
