Sensory regulation in action 🤍

Here’s our lovely Charlotte demonstrating OT recommendations for a sensory programme for a child on caseload.

You’ll spot lots of regulating activities, including:
🌬 Blowing games for breath and oral regulation (as well as oral motor skills)
💪 Deep pressure, heavy work & wheelbarrow walks
🧊 Breaking ice with a rolling pin for purposeful resistance
🤸 Jumping and movement for proprioceptive input
🌀 Carefully graded vestibular play using spinning dish
🎨 Messy play for tactile exploration
🥨 Chewy and crunchy snacks for calming jaw input

These activities aren’t random; they’re intentionally chosen to support regulation, body awareness, and readiness to engage.

When we meet sensory needs first, everything else becomes more possible 💛

We love a good construction game here! 🦕🔧

Research suggests that Bimanual therapy (practising using both hands together) is one of the best ways to support everyday hand function for children with hemiplegia. Research also shows it’s even more effective when it’s meaningful, fun, and adapted to the child’s abilities.

That’s exactly what we do here: creating play that challenges both hands, builds confidence, and teaches real-life skills through joyful, child-led activities.

Today’s version? A dinosaur, a screwdriver, and a whole lot of determination! 💛🦖

Big shout out to Aaron who has kept the fort running here at GLOT Practice! 🐝

He has been a busy bee as always supporting kiddos out in the community with an array of assessments, trials, equipment set ups and fun therapy focused sessions.

Over the last couple of weeks he has been helping with spinal stimulation and postural support, trialling new wheelchairs with Clinical Mobility Solutions and setting up bespoke sleep systems. This is just a snippet!
Every detail matters, from pressure relief to optimal alignment, to ensure comfort, safety and participation for the children we work with.

It is incredible to see how these small thoughtful adjustments can make a big difference in daily life. Equipment is not just about mobility, it is about supporting the whole child: posture, sensory regulation, comfort and the ability to engage in meaningful activities.
