Today is World Parkinson’s Day 💙

It’s also Parkinson’s Awareness Month a time to shine a light on the realities of living with Parkinson’s and the importance of understanding, patience, and support.

At Motherly Love Domiciliary Care, we’ve worn something blue today or painted 💙 to recognise and raise awareness of Parkinson’s. A condition that affects so many individuals and families in different ways.

We’ve also been working closely with an individual to support communication by using a text-to-talk app, helping them to express themselves more confidently and maintain their independence.

As a family run company, it felt especially meaningful to involve my children in a small bake yard sale to help raise awareness bringing our community together in a simple but heartfelt way 💙

Every day, we see the strength, resilience, and determination of those living with Parkinson’s, and we are proud to support people to live as independently and comfortably as possible in their own homes.

This week has been a little gift ☀️

With the weather being so warm for this time of year, we’ve been encouraging time outside, whether that’s fresh air in the garden, gentle walks, sitting on a bench, or enjoying local outings. 🌿

Getting out, even for a short while, can do so much for wellbeing 🧡💜 lifting moods, encouraging movement, and bringing a sense of calm. It’s been lovely to see smiles, and individuals getting out of their house for the first time this year!

Imagine a garden filled with beautifully scented flowers. But not being able to smell them. This is the reality for many people living with Parkinson’s.

That’s why we’re proud to launch our scentless flagship Rose, in partnership with Harkness Roses, called Parkinson’s Resilience.

Anosmia is when your sense of smell becomes weaker, or you aren’t able to smell anymore. It can be a common early symptom of Parkinson’s, and some people experience it years before they’re diagnosed. And we hope to raise much needed awareness of this symptom through our rose that will feature at our RHS Chelsea Flower Show Garden - Parkinson’s UK: A Garden for Every Parkinson’s Journey, which is sponsored by Project Giving Back.

This beautiful rose has a mix of shades from the original salmon pink to hints of creamy amber with a constant dark red eye in the centre.

We’re incredibly grateful to Harkness Roses for giving us our rose, and for donating £5 of every sale to us. £5 could fund a smell test kit, providing researchers with data to identify the earliest signs of Parkinson’s and develop new treatments that could one day slow or stop the condition.

We’d also like to say thank you to everyone who helped choose our rose name. Over 3,000 of you voted to name this special flower. 🌹

🧡💜🐣 Happy Easter from Motherly Love Domiciliary Care 🐣🧡💜

As we celebrate this special time of year, we reflect on the true meaning of Easter a time of hope, renewal, compassion, and faith. For many, it is a deeply religious occasion, marking new beginnings and the power of love and sacrifice.

Within domiciliary care, we often see that over Easter, many of our service users need less support as they are supported by their families, enjoying valuable time together. We actively encourage this, as those moments are so important for wellbeing, connection, and happiness.

This also allows our dedicated care team the opportunity to enjoy more family time during the Easter period, while continuing to ensure that anyone who does need support receives the same high standard of compassionate care 💜
