🚨 Joint of the Week: Hip 🚨

The hip joint is an intricate and complex mix of bone and soft tissues, which can make the diagnosis of hip injuries difficult. Most soft tissue problems about the hip can be treated conservatively if the specific diagnosis is targeted with focused rehabilitation techniques. In rare cases, surgery may be necessary to treat the problem.

In this post, it goes over the muscles and introducing new soft tissue structures that make up the hip joint (see pictures below). Next post will go over the common hip injuries and how to identify them.

📱If you have a hip injury or had one in the past that hasn’t fully recovered, please get in touch for a full or a FREE 20 minute injury consultation. If you may have any questions, feel free to ask 😁

🚨 Joint of the Week: Hip 🚨

The hip joint is one of the most important joints in the human body. It allows us to walk, run, and jump. It bears our body’s weight and the force of the strong muscles of the hip and leg. It is located beneath deep layers of strong supporting muscles and ligaments. A healthy hip can carry almost 5 times a person’s body weight during an everyday activity such as walking. Yet the hip joint is also one of our most flexible joints and allows a greater range of motion than all other joints in the body except for the shoulder.

In this post, it goes over the main articulations and bones that make up the hip joint (see pictures below). Next post will go over the soft tissue structures of the hip.

🚨 Joint of the Week: Knee Injuries 🚨

Knee injuries can happen to anyone, whether you play sport or partake in an activity leisurely. With knee injuries, it's important to know where the source of the pain is coming from. It may not be so simple. As a Sports Therapist, we look out for biomechanical predispositions in the ankle or the hip for example, that could contribute towards having knee pain. In this post, it goes over the common knee injuries and what to lookout for if you unsure about what it is.

📱 If you have a knee injury or had one in the past that hasn't fully healed, please feel free to get in touch for a full or FREE 20 minute injury consultation or any questions you may have 😁

🚨 Joint of the Week: Knee 🚨

A soft tissue within the knee is a structure that helps to maintain normal movement and function. Each soft tissue component has a specialised role to play in the function of the knee. Injury to one of these can cause pain and discomfort.

Soft tissue injuries of the knee are most often caused by a sudden movement or direct blow that strains the knee beyond its normal range of movement. Knee pain results when the structures that stabilise the knee: ligaments, muscles, tendons, and menisci are strained or torn.

🚨 Joint of the Week: Knee

The knee is the largest joint in the human body and a common source of athletic-related injuries. Classified as a pivotal hinge joint, the knee allows for straightening and bending in one direction, with some twisting (screw home mechanism).

In this post, it briefly goes over the two articulations that make up the knee joint as well as the bones. The next posts will go over the soft tissue and common injuries.

🚨 Joint of the Week: Ankle 🚨

Ankle injuries are common whether you play sport or you participate in leisurely activites. It doesn’t mean you have to be an athlete to turn your ankle and hurt it. Something as simple as walking on an uneven surface can cause a painful lateral ankle sprain. Ankle injuries can happen to anyone at any age. As a Sports Therapist, we look at age as well other predisposing factors such as previous injury history, the sport/activity you partake, any form of training for that sport/activity and more. We also look at the signs & symptoms as well as look at where the pain is coming from anatomically.

📱 If you have an ankle injury or had one in the past, please feel free to get in touch for a full or a FREE 20 minute injury consultation or any questions you may have 😁

🚨 Joint of the Week: Ankle 🚨

Soft tissue describes the type of cells that work together to connect, envelope, support and/or move surrounding structures. In general, “soft tissue” is commonly used to describe muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves. In this post, it goes over the functions that these soft tissue structures and how they help move + stabilise the ankle. It also goes over the common pain types of those soft tissue structures to help guide you if you have sustained an injury. Next post, I'll be going over common ankle injuries.

📱 If you have an ankle injury or had one in the past, please feel free to get in touch for an injury consultation or any questions you may have.

🚨 Joint of the Week: Ankle 🚨

The ankle and foot form a complex system which consists of 28 bones, 33 joints, 112 ligaments, controlled by 13 extrinsic and 21 intrinsic muscles.
It can be divided into the rearfoot, midfoot, and forefoot with it functioning as a rigid structure for weight bearing. It can also function as a flexible structure to conform to uneven terrain. The foot and ankle provide various important functions such as:
* Supporting body weight
* Providing balance
* Shock absorption

In this post, here are the different joints that form the ankle and foot. You may be surprised as to how much is going on in a small joint? 🤷‍♂️ I thought I’d give an insight as to how the ankle operates, in which it can help anyone who may have sustained an injury to the joint. Next post, I’ll be going over the soft tissue of the ankle and the common pain types associated with them.

🤕 Got a pain in the front of your shins that just does not want to go away? Have you been running a lot or playing a lot of sports that involve jumping? If so, you may be dealing with what is known as ‘shin splints’. Shin splints, which is better known as ‘medial tibial stress syndrome’, is an injury more common in endurance athletes such as runners 🏃‍♂️, as well as athletes involved in jumping sports such as football or netball , who are placing large amounts of stress with high volume through their lower leg. Other causes are a sudden increase in duration, frequency, or intensity of exercise as well as inappropriate footwear.

📱If this sounds familiar, please feel free to contact me further and get back moving pain free ☺️

🚨 Rotator Cuff Anatomy 🚨

🧠 The rotator cuff is a group of muscles in the shoulder that allow a wide range of movement while maintaining the stability of the shoulder. The rotator cuff includes the following muscles: Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres minor & Subscapularis. All the cuff muscles arise from the scapula (shoulder blade) and connect to the head of the humerus (upper arm bone). This area is often prone to injury due to its complex anatomy and mobility.

📱If you have shoulder pain, it could be due to the rotator cuff muscles. Please get in touch with me to have an injury consultation.
