here's a quick guide on autistic burnout because burnout is a bitch and we gotta know about it to manage it 🙃

autistic burnout is a common experience that every autistic will experience that happens due to living in a NT society with stresses and demands as well as a lack of accomodations and resources.⁣

it is an extreme state of physical and mental exhaustion with a loss of skills and ability to mask and it doesn’t happen from a single cause but a culmination of contributing factors.

everyone will manage their burnout differently but as soon as I reach burnout the best thing I can do myself is to remove as many demands and as much stimulation as possible so I can start recovering.

usually my only way through burnout is by shutting down, withdrawing and focusing on meeting my needs.⁣

if you’re experiencing autistic burnout, you’re not failing - your resources are exhausted and your needs aren’t being met and you're trying to survive in a world not built for you xo

So many people think that dyslexia affects just a persons spelling or reading but commonly overlooked is the profound mental health impact that dyslexia can manifest when a dyslexic person is placed in systems that solely measures value of a person in their ability to pass exams, or retain information that a person has no emotional attachment too.

No attention is paid to a dyslexic persons ability to conceptualise, strategise, create, design and innovate. To convey their ideas in presentation and to emotional connect with the world around them on such a deeply empathetic level.

LinkedIn have made a phenomenal step forwards in introducing this option on their profiles.

Sir Richard Branson has hailed LinkedIn's decision to recognise the term "Dyslexic Thinking" as a major step towards helping people feel proud of their neurodiversity.

I’ve had a few messages asking what it is I ‘do’ so I thought I’d share a little from a rather lovely session I run with my smallest clients.

Sparkly Playdough Worry Monsters.

We use the Worry Monsters as a tool to give the little one somthing to do with their hands and to play whilst they think about their feelings. We then ask our Worry Monsters to ‘hold’ the little ones expressed feelings so that they don’t have to. This really helps in the beginning of their journey to process and let go.
