The ‘Project Water’ Story

Project Water was launched by Maria Marcaigh, a licentiate homeopath and essence producer. The idea for such a project evolved out of long-term interest in the ubiquitous yet enduringly mysterious substance synonymous with life itself. Water’s life-giving propensity is cause enough for celebration, but there is so much more. Water’s ability to provoke an emotional response, to create meaning, to inspire the imagination and even to induce a mystical experience is arguably uncontested. Water, as both a natural and cultural artefact, is endlessly fascinating.

In the early 90’s, Maria was inspired by the work of Jacques Benveniste who is credited with coining the term ‘Memory of Water’. Successful, but misunderstood, trials on potentised water culminated in ostracization by the scientific community. However, new evidence appears to vindicate Benveniste’s hypothesis regarding water’s capacity to retain an imprint of all it is exposed to and / or comes into contact with. Breakthroughs in water research by scientists such as Professor Gerald Pollack and Dr Luc Montagnier are paving the way for major paradigmatic shifts with implications for both bio-medical and holistic healthcare practices. It is an exciting time for practitioners of Vibrational Medicine.

Maria’s relationship with water deepened after re-locating to the Malvern Hills area of Worcestershire. An abundance of natural springs contributed to the area’s rich water culture with annual Well Dressing festival and Water Blessing ceremonies. Local sources of water from Malvhina Fountain and St Ann’s Well were collected for consumption and the contours of those ancient hills were explored at every opportunity. In the summer of 2009, Maria was drawn to create the first of her Water Essences from various sources within the Malvern Hills landscape. The essences are a work in progress, but will be available very soon.

The water journey gathered momentum with a period of study at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Lampeter. A programme of study within the discipline of anthropology led, serendipitously, to a dissertation project on human-water relationships in the Malvern Hills area. The research project was essentially an investigation into water related meaning-making processes the outcome of which helped illuminate the ontological significance of local water-orientated activities. Research material was later used to present a poster on water from an anthropological perspective at the 2016 International Water Conference in Sofia, Bulgaria, organised by Professor Pollack.
