Sling Shot Seized from young person by PCSO Kev Tudge this morning in the Pickersleigh area of Malvern.
Under the Prevention of Crime Act 1953, it is an offence to possess any offensive weapon in a public place without a "lawful authority or reasonable excuse". A slingshot is not automatically classified as an offensive weapon, but if you carry it with the intent of causing injury, it becomes one.
The use of a slingshot to injure or kill animals is illegal under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
In such cases, the police have powers to seize the weapon as part of their investigation.
We understand that most young people do no possess a sling shot, however we would like advise parents of the above and to be aware of what their Children may be getting up along with the dangers of carrying and using a sling shot.
