Volunteers like these air cadets will be in our stores ahead of Remembrance Day selling poppies in support of the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.

The cadets, from 177 (Blackpool Airport) Air Cadets helped our Blackpool store's community champion Angie launch the annual appeal. She said: "It's so nice to see young people supporting the appeal and remembering those who have fallen or were injured in conflicts. The cadets will be back in store at the weekend and we have volunteers from the Royal British Legion in store on other days."

A huge thank you to all our generous customers who supported the Poppy Appeal in our stores last year, helping us raise £1,451,335 to support the armed forces community.

Children dressing up for Halloween can have one of our Kids Eat for £1 meal deals completely free in Asda Cafés nationwide on October 31.

The £1 meal deal will continue throughout the rest of the week, which is half term in much of the country. There's no minimum spend and no need for an accompanying adult meal. Dishes include chicken nuggets, fish fingers, penne pasta and pizza, and the cold Pick & Mix option, which includes a sandwich, drink, fruit and a sweet treat.

Jordan Cummings, Buying Manager, Cafes and Concessions at Asda, said: “Halloween should be about fun, not financial fright. With Halloween falling in half term this year, we’re proud to help families celebrate without breaking the bank - from free meals for kids in costume to great value across the store, including fun outfits from George.”

Katherine from our Derby store is getting behind our Tickled Pink charity campaign – and knows from her own experience just how important its message of regularly checking yourself is.

Katherine has secondary breast cancer which means that cancer cells have spread from the original breast cancer to other parts of the body. She needs chemotherapy in hospital every three weeks to keep it under control. She said: "Raising awareness of breast cancer is so important and that's why Tickled Pink and the check-it campaigns are vital. Both men and women need to be aware of their own bodies and if they find something that they think isn't right then they need to go to see their GP straight away. The earlier it's caught the better."

Katherine was first diagnosed with breast cancer 13 years ago. She found a lump on a regular check and went to the doctors where it was confirmed as beast cancer and subsequently had it removed and had both chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment. Four-and-a-half years later the breast cancer returned and she was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. She said: "It was Christmas time and they found out that it had spread to my lungs, liver and also bones. I had chemotherapy straight away and it worked very well for me and by the time I'd completed the course my lungs and liver were clear. At the moment I don't have any active disease but I do have to have chemotherapy every three weeks which is pretty hard. Things can be tough but I'm a very positive person. I really look after myself and I love life."

Asda Derby's community champion Rosie said: "Katherine is honestly one of the most loveliest people I've ever met in my life and I am so lucky to have her as not only a colleague, but a friend. I'm so proud of Katherine for telling her story – she's such an inspiration. I can imagine there's a lot of people out there in a similar situation as Katherine and I'm just hoping this inspires them. There is hope and you're not alone."

Donna from our Larne store is backing our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign – and says it's thanks to her friend and former colleague Andrea encouraging her to go to a routine mammogram that she got her own life-saving breast cancer diagnosis.

Donna said: "It was a time of year when there was lots going on with Tickled Pink and as we were both over 40 it seemed like a great time to get checked out. I wasn't all that bothered, but she did go on and on, so to keep her happy I went. About a week later, I got a referral letter to go to the breast clinic at a local hospital. After a few tests I was told I had cancer.”

Following surgery and 10 years of treatment, home shopping team leader Donna is now cancer-free and so grateful to Andrea. Donna said: "She saved my life. I had no lumps or pain and without her making me go for the check it could have been too late by the time I found a lump. So, I would say to anyone: please go and get checked out, I'm so glad I did!"

Asda Larne's community champion Gail said: "Donna’s courage and openness have really inspired our team. Her story is a reminder of why awareness and check-ups are so important."

Moke knows from personal experience how important it is to get an early breast cancer diagnosis – and now she wants to share her story to help other people in a similar situation.

It was 2018 when Moke felt a lump in her left breast while moisturising herself after a bath and suspected something was wrong, but because she was busy, she didn't go to the doctor for a month. She said: "When I felt the lump I immediately thought, 'Oh, what is this? This is not normal.' But I was busy and kept putting it off. It was a lesson learnt. I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer which had spread to my lymph nodes. I had a single mastectomy followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I had my lymph nodes removed and ended up with a chronic condition called lymphoedema, a swelling in the arm. Triple negative is the most aggressive form of breast cancer. After the operation, because they took the specimen to the lab, they found another lump already growing in the one they removed. It's that aggressive."

Moke, who's from Dagenham, is sharing her experience as part of our Tickled Pink campaign, which supports Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!, to inspire other people get into a regular habit of checking themselves.

A big well done to Cameron, Zoe and Seema from our Rushden store for stepping in to help five-year-old Micah when he had an epileptic seizure while out shopping with his dad Brian.

Micah was diagnosed with epilepsy in May and often has several seizures a day. They're normally short, but this one lasted for more than two minutes, so Seema cradled Micah while he was unconscious until first aiders Cameron and Zoe arrived and called 999. When Micah came round he was very upset and confused, so they took him by wheelchair to a quiet room and made him comfortable while they waited for paramedics to arrive.

Brian said: "After paramedics arrived they decided the best course of action was to take Micah to hospital to be fully checked. The staff allowed him to leave with a magazine and toy lorry we had been planning to buy which gave a sense of comfort to Micah at the hospital. We appreciate all the support offered by the staff present who all went above and beyond for Micah to ensure he was as safe as possible and taken care of. We are so thankful to them all and it is great to know such well trained and caring staff are operating at the Rushden store." Brian and his wife Jamie were so touched by the colleagues kindness that they called in later to say thank you and to let everyone know that Micah was OK. He's since moved to some new medication which has led to his seizures stopping.

Asda Rushden store manager David said: "I’m incredibly proud of these individuals and the wider store team in Rushden. They always go out of their way to do what’s right by the customer and on this occasion really went over and above."

There's no history of breast cancer in Robyn's family – so until she felt a lump by chance one day she hadn't seriously considered it as something that could happen to her. Now she and her husband Andy are sharing their experience as part of our Tickled Pink campaign, which supports Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!, and want to encourage other people to know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.

Robyn, who's a mum of three and from Gwynedd in Wales, said: "I was just 33, classed myself as healthy, and my diagnosis came totally out of the blue. I found the lump by accident. I was in bed and I pulled the duvet up and just felt something. I kept it to myself at first, but soon told Andy, went to the doctor and then everything happened really quickly."

Robyn had an appointment at a breast clinic within 10 days of seeing her GP and was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer. Within another 10 days she was in hospital having a lumpectomy, followed by six months of chemotherapy and 20 radiotherapy sessions. Robyn, who's now been cancer-free for five years, said: "When you're being treated you get exposed to this whole other world and see the best of humanity, both from the people having the treatment and people giving it."

Community champion Jackie from our Burton on Trent store has always thrown herself behind our Tickled Pink campaign raising money and awareness for Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! – and after her own breast cancer diagnosis it's become a very personal cause for her.

Jackie was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago after going for a routine mammogram. She had an operation to remove the lump and five rounds of radiotherapy and has made a good recovery. It's an experience she's using to help customers and colleagues. She said: "When I'm doing Tickled Pink tombolas and fundraisers customers are always talking to me, so I can say to them that I've had it as well and survived. I'm always happy to tell people about my story.

"Some women put their mammograms off, but it's only a ten-minute appointment and it can save your life. It's not embarrassing at all. If I hadn't have gone when I was called then it could have been a different story. Tickled Pink is a great cause as we need to raise awareness."

Asda customer Theresa has thanked 23-year-old optical colleague Zain from our Nuneaton store for potentially saving the sight in her right eye.

Theresa was getting flashing lights, 'cobwebs' and blurriness in the eye, so made an appointment at the Asda opticians. Zain spotted a retinal tear and immediately referred Theresa to Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry for treatment. She was seen very quickly and had laser treatment to rectify the problem. Theresa, who used to work in the store, said: "If I'd have left it the retina could have detached completely, so if Zain hadn't spotted it it could have been a lot worse. I went in to see Zain personally to thank him for what he'd done."

Zain is a pre-registration optometrist who graduated in optometry at the University of Plymouth. He carried out the examination under his supervisor Sammy. Zain said: "I'm just glad that I managed to spot it and she got it sorted. In this profession you have got to have great attention to detail and I'm proud of myself. I do like to help people." The store's optical manager Karen said: "Zain did a very good job. We are very proud of him. He followed the process and spotted the tear in the retina. He hasn't been with us long but he's made a big impression."

When 21-year-old service colleague Charlotte found £250 in ten pound notes on the floor of our Pershore supermarket she turned detective to track down the person who'd dropped it.

Charlotte stored the cash at the customer service desk and then scoured the store's CCTV camera recordings to identify the customer – someone who was a regular at the store. She said: “I was just at the back of the store near the yoghurts and I saw a ten pound note on the floor. I bent down and picked it up and then further along I saw a pile of notes all loose. It was all very strange. When we went back through the CCTV we could see the money on the floor and people were walking past it – they can’t have seen it. I then saw the lady it belonged to and recognised her as a regular. It looked like she’d had it loose in the bottom of a handbag and it had fallen through a hole.”

The customer later realised that the money was missing and returned to the store to see if it had been handed in. Store manager Nathan said: "Charlotte is a great colleague, very reliable and dependable. She's held in very high regard here. The lady was so, so grateful."

As part of our Tickled Pink breast cancer campaign 22-year-old Hope is sharing her personal experience to encourage more young people to build a regular self-checking routine – and to show that finding something unusual doesn't always result in a breast cancer diagnosis.

Hope has got into a regular routine of checking herself after receiving text reminder messages and getting shower stickers from CoppaFeel! which are funded through our Tickled Pink campaign, which also supports Breast Cancer Now. It meant that when Hope noticed a small lump and increased sensitivity in her chest she was prompted to visit her GP. She said: "If it wasn't for that routine and the resources from CoppaFeel! I probably wouldn't have found the lump. That's why it's so important that people are knowledgeable on what to be aware of and that they have the confidence to go to the GP if they do find anything."

Hope was referred to a breast clinic in her home city of Liverpool and found out that it was nothing too serious. She said: "I'm so glad I got it checked out because you just never know. I was worried about wasting the doctors' time, but they kept telling me that I'd done the right thing. My message to anyone in that situation is that if something doesn't feel right then you should get it checked out. You have to put yourself first. But also I want more people to know that finding a lump isn't necessarily bad news."

Kellie and Vanessa from our Hailsham supermarket are proud to be supporting our Tickled Pink breast cancer charity campaign – and are using their personal experience to support any colleagues or customers who need it.

They've both had breast cancer and say the message put out by Tickled Pink and our charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! about the importance of checking yourself regularly is so important. Kellie was diagnosed with breast cancer and endometrial cancer in June 2023 after she noticed a lump on her left breast. She's had chemotherapy and a mastectomy and has made an excellent recovery. She said: "My message for both men and woman out there is 'don't be scared'. People are scared to check themselves and are scared to go for a mammogram. It doesn't hurt and people are so lovely as they know what you are going through. Check yourself in the shower, the bath or at bedtime. If you feel something that's not right then please go to your doctor straight away."

Vanessa was diagnosed with breast cancer last year after a routine mammogram. She said: "I know people are really busy and just think everything is okay if you can't feel anything, but you should really attend those mammogram appointments. Mine was caught early thankfully so I didn't need chemotherapy." Store manager Tracy, pictured here with Vanessa and Kellie, said: "I can't put into words the fight, courage and bravery that Kellie and Vanessa have shown. The word courage means the ability to do something that frightens oneself and Kellie and Vanessa have courage like nothing that I have ever seen. It is a pleasure to work with these strong ladies."

When an elderly customer couldn't remember the PIN number on her bank card and was getting upset because she couldn't pay for her shopping our checkouts colleague Kim immediately stepped in to help.

Kim tried to calm the lady down, told her to take a minute in case the code came back to her, but when she still couldn't remember it and was getting upset as she had no-one to call or help Kim paid for it herself. She said: "She was looking in her purse and counting out pennies, but didn't have enough so I just thought if this was my mum what would I want someone to do. I had my debit card on me so asked the manager if it was ok that I used it to pay for her, and that's what I did. It meant a lot to her. If it was my mum I'd like to think someone would do the same if the circumstances arose."

Kim was awarded star points in recognition of her kindness which covered the cost of the shopping as well as a reward for going above and beyond. Asda Boldon's community champion Tracey said: "Kim's really modest and didn't want to make a fuss, but the lady was really overwhelmed by Kim's actions and could not thank her enough. Kim is our hero."

When home shopping driver Don from our Trafford Park store saw an 84-year-old man had taken a tumble he helped him into his house, cleaned him up, phoned for medics and then, after he'd finished his shift, went round with some fish and chips!

Don had just delivered a customer's shopping when he heard the gentleman trip on the pavement and hit his face as he headed to his front door. Don said: "I went over to see how he was, called 999 as I thought he should be checked over and got some tissues out of the van to clean up the bleeding. He was a bit wobbly, but I managed to get him into the house, sat him down and got him a coffee. When I finished my shift I thought I'd just get him some fish and chips. Medics had been and dressed his wounds and advised him to stay inside for a day. I just kept him company for a while and we had a nice chat and he told me that he lived on his own and had no family nearby. I saw him a few weeks later and he looked a lot better.

"The gentleman was very grateful and couldn't thank me enough, but I said to him that I just couldn't leave him."

When a customer in her 80s phoned our Trafford Park store to say she was having difficulty accessing her Asda account to do her online shopping, our colleague Aaron went round to her house to help her out personally.

Thirty-four-year-old Aaron, who's the store's ambient manager, said: "The lady has mobility issues and is only about ten minutes from the store so I thought it would be easier to go round there rather than trying to explain things over the phone. I found that the operating system on her Mac that she was using was quite old and she was having difficulty getting onto various sites including the Asda one. I ended up setting it up for her on her phone, tablet and another PC on the house so she could place her online orders again. She was over the moon."

Asda regional manager Sadia nominated Aaron for an Asda service superstar award and said: "This kind of behaviour is not out of character for Aaron who is always willing to help anyone in need. No job is too much for him."

It was a great pleasure to present the amazing team at Trafford Veterans CIC with a lucky golden ticket for £1,500 worth of free fuel as part of Asda's 60th birthday celebrations.

Twenty lucky community groups across the UK have been chosen to receive a golden ticket that they know will help with the burden of expensive transportation costs.

I help to support Trafford Veterans CIC whenever I can and I just how much this will help with their transport costs.

In 2023 the Asda Foundation provided a grant for £24,000 to help renovate their van so they could help more people in our community.

Asda Trafford Park's customer and community champion Catharine has been commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day with the team from Trafford Veterans CIC who are also celebrating their 10th anniversary.

The group was given an Asda Foundation grant of £1,000 to fund the event as part of Asda's own 60th birthday celebrations. Trafford Veterans, which was set up by Claire and Chris, supports armed forces veterans, emergency services, reservists, members of the cadet forces and their families. The group aims to tackle social isolation and aid those struggling to make ends meet.

Catharine said: "Claire and Chris have helped so many local veterans and their families. They run several groups; a game group, model craft group, breakfast club, warm hub, the Mobile Hub Vehicle that was funded via an Asda Foundation Investing in Spaces and Places grant, and so much more. Claire and Chris have served for our country and it’s a pleasure to know them. They work so hard and deserve the world for what they do in our community."

Singer and actor Wayne has swapped the bright lights of singing in Las Vegas and appearing in TV shows including Coronation Street, Peaky Blinders and Happy Valley for working at our Trafford Park store – and says the two worlds of working in showbiz and for Asda are more alike than many people think.

Wayne, who received a British Citizen's Award for raising £750,000 for various charities through his singing, joined Asda just before Christmas. He said: "Vegas and Asda aren’t as far apart as they seem. Both are about putting on a great performance, working together, and making sure people leave happy. The show must go on – whether it’s under the bright lights of the stage or the bright lights of Asda!

"When I was performing in Las Vegas, every night was about creating an experience. It wasn’t just about singing – it was about timing, energy, and making sure the audience left with a smile. In Vegas, I connected with people through music. At Asda, I connect with people through service, conversation, and community. Whether it’s greeting a regular customer, helping someone find what they need, or celebrating the return of Rollback, that same sense of energy, passion and teamwork is there."

The store's customer trading manager Vicki said: "He is amazing and so lovely. The customers absolutely love him. He's always calm and he'll do anything for them. Some days I'll be in the office upstairs and I'll look out of the window and he's there helping a mum and her kids putting the shopping into the car. When we have a customer who's upset he just has this way with them so they are laughing and joking. He's just the nicest person you will ever meet."

Trafford North Foodbank Food Drive came into store and collected 362.5kg of food, which equates to 863 meals.

This was a huge collection in one day and £125.02 in cash donations. This was amazing and we have now booked several more dates for this year.

What an amazing day at emergency services day with Trafford Veterans we raised £572.29 for Trafford Veterans CIC.
