New Year, New You?
So it's new year, new you, and, um, there's going to be a lot of people hitting the gyms, going out running, getting fit, trying to lose weight, all the normal stuff after the Christmas binge. And I'm no different from you. I've overindulged, I've drunk too much, I've eaten too much, and I haven't exercised enough because it's been a disruption of my normal routine.
So as you're getting back to, a lot of people are thinking about getting fit, people are thinking about weight loss, but nobody's really thinking about injury prevention. And injury prevention is the thing that's going to help you achieve your goals by being consistent and not getting injured. So the first thing you need to do is just have a goal.
And the first goal you need shouldn't be weight loss or getting fit because that's too generic. Set yourself a goal that is achievable and gives you a sense of pride that you're doing it. Whether it's couch to five k, joining the CrossFit box, or maybe doing high rocks, as I am in April, have a goal and that will just magnetize you to what you need to do.
So that's the first one. Give yourself a goal that will mean that you'll be consistent. Like tonight's run, my first five k in ages. I didn't want to go. I was comfort of all, I was cozy, I was having a cup of tea. Uh, I didn't want to go out in the rain, I didn't want to go out in the cold.
But once I've done it, I feel much better. And the other thing that we need to do is we need to just take it easy, make sure we're not kicking the ass out of it on our first session back. What you don't want to do is push too hard.
Just be kind to yourself, grade yourself back. You're not as fit as you were two weeks ago, so don't try and push. Uh, and then the last thing is making sure that although you want things like increased fitness and weight loss and feeling better, these things are not going to kick in immediately.
They're going to take six to eight weeks to kick in, reminding you of the basics as well. You don't get the gains until you've invested a minimum of six weeks. So in order to make sure that you bulletproof yourself for 2024, for make sure you're doing the basics well and, um, have a great year.
But more importantly, remember that injury is the enemy. So bulletproof your body.
Bye.
