Do you really need to double cleanse?🧼

If you find your scalp is particularly oily or you visit the gym often, then I would definitely recommend double cleansing to make sure any buildup is removed from the scalp. 💆‍♀️

But for those with a dry or sensitive scalp, once should be enough! Over cleansing can sometimes cause irritation and if your scalp is sensitive, it’s best to avoid this.

Introducing a double cleanse to your routine can work effectively when tailored to your scalp and lifestyle. 🫧

Sometimes just giving your hair and scalp that little bit of breathing room can work wonders💆‍♀️

Conditioner isn’t making your hair fall out.

What you’re seeing are telogen hairs, strands that have already detached beneath the scalp and are simply ready to shed. 💆‍♀️

When you shampoo, those loose hairs are dislodged. Then, as you apply conditioner, they slip out more easily making it look like the conditioner is to blame. 🧴

The reality is that the conditioner helps protect, smooth and hydrate your hair… it does not cause hair loss!👏

Have you noticed that your postpartum hair loss keeps returning?🤔

Postpartum hair shedding can be expected in the first year due to a shift in hormones. 🤰

However, if you’ve noticed it reoccurs every year rather than just after pregnancy it might be time to turn to a professional. Reoccurring postpartum hair loss can signal another trigger such as thyroid imbalance, nutritional deficiency or stress related shedding and a check up with a professional will help rule these out and hopefully put your mind at ease. 💆‍♀️

Can anti dandruff shampoos cause more hair shedding? The answer is no!🧴

Typically anti dandruff shampoos are used to treat the condition of the hair and scalp - Nizoral being a great one to try if you are concerned about hair loss!💆‍♀️

If you’re in need of product recommendations, here’s some of the best ones to look out for:

🌸 Dry scalp / flaky + tightness

- Kérastase Symbiose Moisturising Anti-Dandruff Cellular Shampoo – hydrating, sulphate free
- The Body Shop Ginger Anti-Dandruff Shampoo – gentle on the scalp

💧 Oily scalp / heavy build-up

- Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo – 1% ketoconazole, strong antifungal for persistent flakes.
- T/Gel Coal Tar - heavy duty coal tar, mainly used for psoriasis but helps to remove heavy scale

🌱 Sensitive scalps / curly or fine hair

- Head & Shoulders Bare Pure Clean – sulphate/silicone/dye-free, minimal ingredients.
- Noughty Care Taker - kind to your scalp microbiome, sulphate and silicone free

Did you know elevated testosterone can play a role in female hair loss?💡

Different labs/doctors use different cut offs, but generally for non-menopausal women a level above 1.6 nmol/L is on the higher end. This means you are likely to have more DHT, which is tone of the factors that leads to smaller and weaker hair follicles.

This is often seen in conditions like PCOS, where hormonal imbalances make hair thinning more likely. 💆‍♀️

For post-menopausal women, your oestrogen drops sharply whereas androgen production declines more slowly, which can lead to an imbalance. This doesn’t mean that HRT with testosterone will cause hair loss however.

That’s why a full hormone panel alongside a scalp assessment is so important! It helps confirm the root cause and shape the right treatment plan. 🔎

Hair loss is complex, but you don’t have to figure it out alone!

If you’ve suddenly noticed that the shampoo you’ve been using for years is making your hair fall out… well, your shampoo is NOT to blame.

Shampooing dislodges telogen hairs - these are hairs that are ready to fall out and have stopped growing around 8 weeks before.

Unless you have an allergic reaction, it is very unlikely that your shampoo is the problem!

Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional factors linked to hair shedding.

If you’ve been recommended an iron supplement, here are some important things to keep in mind:

🔹 Timing matters – Ideally avoid taking iron with food and caffeine as it reduces absorption.
🔹 Watch combinations – Don’t take iron alongside zinc or calcium, since they compete for absorption. Taking iron with vitamin C can help increase absorption.
🔹 Digestive side effects – Iron can sometimes cause stomach upset or constipation. Taking it with food (but not dairy) or choosing a gentle formulation can help.
🔹 Consistency is key – It may take a few months of regular use before you see improvements in hair shedding.
🔹 Check with a professional – Always test your iron and ferritin levels before supplementing. Too much iron can be just as harmful as too little.

Supporting healthy iron levels is about balance, not overload. When used correctly, iron supplementation can be a powerful tool for healthier hair growth.
