5 Years to the day since I ruptured my Achilles

Here’s 5 things I learned

- Long term injuries are s**t but also an opportunity to work on your weaknesses or outside of your sport

- You have to relearn skills and movements that you first learned unconsciously

- You need a strong support network to keep you in a good mindset

- Enjoy life, more to you than just your injury. The positivity will help, trust me

- You can and will come back stronger providing you get the correct advice and support with your treatment, rehab and nutrition

Importance of Health 🚨

Health is the base of all we do - without that we’ll never reach the heights we want to with performance or we won’t reach them anywhere near as consistently

Picture the two pyramids. Left is with good health and you can see it’s much better built

Right has poor health and will never achieve their goals fully or reach the top of their game

This is why we always flip between focuses of health during the week and then performance around matches/competition time

Get your health right and build everything else on top will have a solid base 🫡

That means in each of the 4 seasons since my Achilles rupture I’ve played over 40 games

Great time to try new things & add some muscle or get leaner

Less performance focus so can drop carbs down with lower intensity work. Also get some good adaptations

Protein stay the same to gain/retain muscle and fats too

Get the off-season right and the season is light work

1) Not everybody communicates the same

On Team OBA I will communicate in a way that works for you - here to improve you and your nutrition. Not give complex info for the sake of it

2) Timing is crucial

On the pitch info has to be given quickly and effectively so someone can take action. We do the same on Team OBA - the info you need, easy to understand, without the fluff

3) Trust & Confidence

On the pitch you understand your teammates and their strengths and weaknesses and they trust your help so it’s easy to communicate what’s needed

On Team OBA we always assess what you’re doing well and where we can improve - we keep the conversation open both ways so it’s a collaboration. Then you’re confident in the structure we build

A team operates on trust which is built over time and works both ways

My athletes on Team OBA trust that I’m giving them the best advice for their situation

And I trust that they’re carrying out our strategy
