World Blood Donor Day

Did You Know?

Every single donation is a precious lifesaving gift and repeat donation is the key to building a safe and sustainable blood supply.

In many countries, blood services face the challenge of making sufficient blood available, while also ensuring its quality and safety. Lack access to safe blood and blood products – especially in low- and middle-income countries, impacts on all patients, including those requiring regular transfusion. One of WHO strategies is to assist low- and middle-income countries in improving the availability and quality of human plasma, including optimising the utilisation of the plasma recovered from whole blood donations, and increasing patients’ access to the life-saving plasma protein therapies.

31 May is World No To***co Day

This yearly celebration informs the public on the dangers of using to***co, the business practices of to***co companies, what WHO is doing to fight the to***co epidemic, and what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations.

The Member States of the World Health Organization created World No To***co Day in 1987 to draw global attention to the to***co epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes.
In 1987, the World Health Assembly passed
Resolution WHA40.38, calling for 7 April 1988 to be a "a world no-smoking day."
In 1988, Resolution WHA42.19 was passed, calling for the celebration of World No To***co Day, every year on 31 May.

In support of Allergy Awareness Week we would like to bring awareness by sharing a fact :

DID YOU KNOW ? - Genetic factors play a significant role in determining a person's susceptibility to hay fever. Several genes, including those involved in immune system regulation and response, have been linked to an increased risk of developing hay fever. Research has shown that the heritability – that is, the degree to which differences in people's genes account for variations in their traits – ranges from 33% to 91% for hay fever. So, if people in your family have hay fever, you're more likely to have it too.
