✨ Yesterday, we had the pleasure of collaborating with Dr Kerry Glendon, a concussion physiotherapy specialist. ✨

Kerry shared her expertise in concussion assessment and rehabilitation, bringing the latest research to life in clinical practice.

It was fantastic to bring together our Sport and Exercise Medicine Consultants and nurses from the OrthTeam Centre, alongside Manchester City’s medical teams and academia - all focused on how we support athletes in returning to play safely and effectively. 🙌🏽

Nia, 67, from Anglesey, had always loved crafting, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren - but persistent shoulder pain was stopping her from doing the things she enjoyed most. 😞

After trying non-surgical options that didn’t provide relief, Nia sought help from OrthTeam’s Professor Chris Peach. With expert diagnostics and a state-of-the-art MRI that quickly revealed the cause - bony impingement, where the bone was rubbing against the rotator cuff tendon inside the shoulder - she underwent minimally invasive keyhole surgery. To her relief, Nia’s shoulder pain disappeared almost immediately after the operation! 😀🎉

With a smooth recovery and personalised physiotherapy, Nia has regained her independence and is back to enjoying the family life and hobbies she loves. ❤️

🔹 Did you know? 🔹

More than 10 million people in the UK are living with arthritis.

The most common form is osteoarthritis - sometimes called ‘wear and tear arthritis’.

It’s a progressive condition that causes pain, stiffness and loss of mobility in the joints.

Who’s most at risk?

▪️Older adults, as bones, joints and muscles weaken with age
▪️Women, who are more likely to develop osteoarthritis than men

🌟 Spinal neurosurgery patient success story: Dr Tim Lyttle’s journey from lumbar disc prolapse to Snowdon Summit 🌟

GP Dr Tim Lyttle was struggling with relentless back and leg pain caused by a lumbar disc prolapse. Walking more than 500m became impossible, and his fitness and everyday life were greatly affected.

After an initial consultation with Dr John Rogers, Sport and Exercise Medicine Consultant, and two spinal injections that provided some relief, Tim was promptly referred to Mr John Leach, Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon, for specialist assessment who confirmed the diagnosis and performed lumbar microdiscectomy surgery.

✨ The result? Significant pain relief following surgery
💪🏼Within a couple of months, Tim was back in the gym, running in the park and strength training
🏔️ And just one year later, Tim marked a major achievement: climbing Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales

Tim shares: "I want others to know that they don’t have to live in pain. If you’re struggling like I was, there is hope and help, and I would highly recommend Mr John Leach, Dr John Rogers and the OrthTeam Centre.”

Congratulations to our very own Professor Max Fehily on achieving this milestone in robotic-assisted surgery. 🎉👏🏽

Celebrating a milestone 🎉

We’re thrilled to announce that Professor Fehily, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Spire Manchester Hospital is the very first consultant to use their new MAKO 4 by Stryker, which arrived at the hospital earlier this week.

This marks an exciting step forward in surgical innovation and patient care at our centre.

Professor Max Fehily said 💬 “Today we were the first hospital in England or Wales to use the new Mako 4 robotic system. As a high volume hip replacement surgeon, I am proud to work with a Hospital Group that continually invests in new technology in order to improve outcomes for our patients. With the addition of this new system, we now have three Mako Robots, making us one of the busiest robotic centres in the UK.”

Congratulations to Professor Fehily for leading the way and embracing the latest in robotic-assisted technology.

🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹🔹

To celebrate this achievement we’re running a 'Name the MAKO' competition 🎉

Think you’ve got the perfect name for our new MAKO? Comment your suggestion for a chance to win a prize - we can’t wait to see your ideas. 🧠

*Please note: you must be over 18 years old to enter the “Name the MAKO” competition. Check T&Cs in our policy tab on our profile *
